Critics Consensus

Four Rooms comes stocked with a ton of talent on both sides of the camera, yet only manages to add up to a particularly uneven -- and dismayingly uninspired -- anthology effort.

Sheila Johnston Independent (UK) No one at all seems to have directed Tim Roth who, as the bellhop linking the segments, tries to do a Jerry Lewis and ends up with a twitching, mugging, achingly unfunny performance that he will come to regard as an embarrassment. Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly Rated: C- Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader The results are mainly awful, and even Roth got saddled with a mannered part that he can't comfortably play. Mar 13, 2007 Full Review Mal Vincent The Virginian-Pilot It's questionable which got the worst of the bargain. In any case, this is one of the more interesting disasters of the waning film year. Rated: 2/4 Mar 1, 2022 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy The weakest entries are absolutely dreadful. Rated: 1/4 Dec 18, 2019 Full Review Tim Stevens The Spool On the one hand, TIm Roth gives the bellhop an almost Charlie Chaplin silent film feel. The impish looks, the exaggerated shock takes, the way he bounces in place or struts behind his room service cart. On the other hand, he has lines. Jul 17, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Elke M I love this movie!! I am always intrigued and curious about hotels and what is going on in each of the rooms. This movie is witty and strange and that’s why I love it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/25 Full Review Audience Member Funniest story in the film is “The Misbehaviors”. Tim Roth was incredibly unfunny though, in fact I would describe it as cringe inducing. Most the time the other actors (especially the kids in that specific story) carried the whole plot. The witch one wasn’t all that funny, Quentin’s was just whatever. That second one with Siegfried was hilarious at times. I really don’t know why, but Robert Rodriguez’s segment blew me away. It shows me how great this film could have been. Hell, the idea and structure is there but the execution isn’t. I’d love to see a remake of this film, but instead of the main character being a stooge he would just be a regular guy. Still a pretty decent little flick. 3/5 stars. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/25 Full Review Zach Z I watched it on PluTo TV for free and found it entertainment. Very interesting. The last room with the children is the best. Good stuff. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/18/24 Full Review A.L.Jude P The worst ever Tarantino involvement. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/24 Full Review Bogdan Z one of the best movies i watched in my life. especially must to rewatch on new year Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/17/23 Full Review Peter W Overall, it's terrific to see actor Tim Roth bring so much energy and wackiness to this film. It's near impossible not to chuckle at various moments. While the film is divided into four chapters, I found the first two extremely painful and challenging to watch. I wouldn't be surprised if many viewers just gave up on the first watch, mainly because there are moments to begin with that are highly uninteresting, slow, and lacking any form of fun or value. Thankfully, with Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino behind the camera for parts three and four, viewers are given a far greater experience. Ultimately, it's a beautiful concept that struggles to get going. As the credits appeared, I was left wishing the entire film was far greater than what it was.
