Audience Member I watched this film on curiosity after reading Kazantzakis' St. Francis, not Hesse. The sound and production are somewhat dated but the performance and message were surprisingly compelling. Rourke, perhaps cast oddly at the time, appears genuine and moving in this role. The same can be said for Helena Bonham Carter, who held a similar fascination. The script could have been developed further which is the only drawback. If you are seeking a moving drama on the life of Francis, this one is worthy and filled with reflective fascinations due to the cast and production.
