Critics Consensus

More bippity boppity than boo, Godmothered tweaks fairytale conventions with just enough self-aware humor to overcome a disappointing deficit of genuine magic.

Jay W This movie is almost so bafflingly bad it comes back around to being interesting. What keeps it from being enjoyably bad is just how dull and generic it is. This movie has made me re-evaluate other "fish out of water" movies. Characters like, Thor, Elf or Luca all do this same routine, but do it so much better. In this movie, the wannabe fairy Godmother is startled by such high-tech things as...a light switch, a sandwich and a mirror. Likewise, the strait laced POV character needs to be done well. Mackenzie is not well written. Her motivation fluxgates wildly from scene to scene. The whole thing feels like it was written by AI, forgetting its own rules from scene to scene. The movie has no respect for its audience, they feel the need to remind them about what the plot is every 5 minutes. It is clear this is written for little kids, but there aren't nearly enough interesting things going to keep their interest. Elanor has magical powers but she uses them for the dumbest things. She sets up Christmas lights and put on dresses. Bibbity bobbity do NOT watch this film. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Dale R An in-training Fairy Godmother sets out to make a happily ever after to save her profession. There are some good ideas here, but they don’t pan out well. I like the idea of a Fairy Godmother school, but the idea wasn’t fleshed out and the motivations of the supporting characters were too simplified. There are also some great messages, but they get muddled together and do not have the impact the movie makers were going for. Isla Fisher does a good job as the recipient of the Fairy Godmother. This film also has a few Cinderella references in it, yet didn’t follow the lore from the classic Disney film. A mediocre movie that you may get some enjoyment out of. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Vitoria F Of all the "fairies in the real world" movies I've watched, this was one of the funniest. I liked the jokes and puns. I also liked that the script didn't do it like most films on this topic (which spend most of the time dealing with the cliché "magic doesn't exist") and went straight to the funny situations. I only found the ending of the film disappointing, as there is no denouement. But otherwise it was a good pastime. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/24 Full Review Mr. Mark D. R May be the dumbest movie ever. Even for kids!!! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/23/23 Full Review Jeffrey M Godmothered was an amazing movie. I watched it kind of a long time ago, so I kind of forget it. Godmothered was a movie that ran along the same lines as Elf and Enchanted. Godmothered was a very funny movie ( like Elf and Enchanted ), and guess what? I LOVE comedy!! Godmothered was a very interesting Christmas movie. What a good movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/28/23 Full Review Ram L The movie can seem silly, but if you silence your inner critic—and allow the child in you to take over—there's quite some wholesome family entertainment here. There are chuckles to be had, weird scenarios, not too many mushy moments, and an ending that might just stay with you. And oh, there's Isla Fischer too.
