Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Santiago Cabrera's father was a Chilean diplomat, so the family moved all over the world. Mainly raised in London, the young Cabrera moved back to Chile at 15, where he excelled at soccer. He attended college on soccer scholarships, but when he took a year abroad in Europe, Cabrera again settled in London and pursued acting. After studying at the Drama Centre London, Cabrera quickly found work. His first on screen role came in 2003, when he played a small part on "Spooks" (BBC One, 2002-2011) A short two years later he appeared in the lead role on "Empire" (ABC, 2005), the mini-series telling the story of Rome after the fall of Caesar. The next year he played one of the super powered characters on "Heroes" (NBC, 2006-2010). He played Lancelot, a recurring role, on "Merlin" (BBC One, 2008-2012), then another character from classic literature when he portrayed Aramis on "The Musketeers" (BBC One, 2014-16). Cabrera played a recurring role on the acclaimed "Big Little Lies" (HBO, 2017-), then a lead role on the sci-fi end of the world thriller "Salvation" (CBS, 2017-18). In 2019 it was announced that Cabrera would play a lead role in the newest show in the Star Trek universe, focusing on Patrick Stewart, who is reprising his role as Captain Jean Luc Picard.
