Critics Consensus

It's sporadically entertaining, but The Green Hornet never approaches the surreal heights suggested by a Michel Gondry/Seth Rogen collaboration.

Jay W This is an unpleasant film to watch. The visuals can be really clever. It is the director of "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind", and there is no shortage of visual style. There are some memorable elements in their limited action scenes. Christoph Waltz also has a funny running gag of trying to be a villain with some sort of gimmick. But outside of those few positives, this movie is an absolute mess. What a waste of talent both in front and behind the camera. It feels like the film had a checklist full of studio notes that they had to fulfill, but they already had a different script and had to just retrofit all the requests in the film. The biggest problem with the film is just how thoroughly unlikable the Green Hornet is. There is a talent to writing an enjoyable jerk, and sometimes Seth Rogen can play that type. But that level of humor and clever repour is not represented in this film. Why should we be rooting for this guy to succeed? He is obnoxious, easily jealous, arrogant, lazy and just annoying to be around. Given this talent, and this property, something good should have come out of this. At least we still got "The Boys" and "Mutant Mayhem" from this team. This just wasn't the green machine for them. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review emilly r I honestly loved this Movie and I don’t know why people don’t like it. It has has a lot of action and is hilarious. Wish they continued to make the 2nd film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review Georgan G The main characters were ok, but the plot is nearly all action & very little comedy. Didn't turn it off, however. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/28/24 Full Review Dark K I'm all for reboots/remakes but anything with Seth rogen I can't recommend all he does is play same characters all time idiotic drug and drunken fool this is slap make fun of green hornet characters parody disrespectful movie if Seth rogen didn't do stupid stuff act more serious I would have like it more as green hornet fan I can not recommend it to any one Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/05/24 Full Review Christine S I watched the whole movie because I kept thinking it would get better. It never did. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review Gareth v I never thought a Gondry project could be such a bore, but this movie proves it is possible.
