Sworn to preserve intergalactic order, the Green Lantern Corps has existed for centuries. Its newest recruit, Hal Jordan, is the first human to join the ranks. The Green Lanterns have little regard for humans, who have thus far been unable to harness the powers of the ring each member wears. But Jordan, a gifted and cocky test pilot, may be the corps' only hope when a new enemy called Parallax threatens the universal balance of power.

Noisy, overproduced, and thinly written, Green Lantern squanders an impressive budget and decades of comics mythology.

Whenever this Lantern returns to terra firma (too often), its imaginative flights are ground down under the Warner overlords’ demographic-pandering heels. Go to Full Review

All the prancing about on a galaxy far far away where Hal [Ryan Reynolds] meets the other Green Lanterns, and the wise ancients, and a gigantic gruff sergeant-type who learns him his ropes is all a bit of a bore. Go to Full Review

Tony 04/15/2022 I love the GL, this was an ok film. See more Jorge R @jlrtechno 5d Geez, the CGI is awful in Green Lantern. The movie is also boring. Thank goodness they didn’t continue with this. See more Michael A @Michael200 5d I don't know why people hated this movie. It was fine. People say the CGI was bad. It was alright. But I wouldn't say the movie was amazing. Just a 7/10 for me See more Curtis S @TheAtom1959 Dec 8 They created OA. A triple home run. OA. See more TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Nov 30 Green Lantern is a film that had so much potential but collapsed under the weight of excessive CGI and uneven execution. Ryan Reynolds, while a talented actor, struggles to balance the comedic energy that makes him great as Deadpool with the gravitas needed for Hal Jordan. The result is a performance that sometimes veers into unintentional parody, making it hard to take the character seriously in what was meant to be a heroic, epic narrative. Blake Lively is serviceable in her role—charming and attractive—but her character doesn’t have much substance to latch onto. The film’s reliance on CGI-heavy visuals overshadows any genuine character development or storytelling. Scenes that could have carried emotional weight or tension instead feel sterile and artificial, leaving the audience disengaged. The screenplay is a major downfall. The story is muddled, pacing is off, and dialogue often fails to land. With so much green screen and digital effects dominating the film, the narrative becomes almost impossible to follow at times. Critical story beats get lost in the spectacle, and what could have been thrilling moments are reduced to visual noise. Director Martin Campbell seems overwhelmed by the visual demands, unable to balance the CGI spectacle with coherent storytelling. This results in a film that’s more exhausting to watch than entertaining, as the focus on effects comes at the expense of character depth and meaningful plot progression. The only redeeming aspect of Green Lantern is the off-screen chemistry that developed between Reynolds and Lively, which became a talking point for audiences but does little to redeem the film itself. Otherwise, there’s very little in terms of enjoyment, excitement, or lasting impact. Ultimately, Green Lantern is a cautionary tale of how over-reliance on CGI, combined with a weak screenplay and uneven performances, can sink a potentially great superhero film. It’s a movie best forgotten—watch it only if you’re curious, but don’t expect anything close to a classic superhero experience.
