Audience Member Good or bad, I assure you, the story is only 10 minutes long, but you'll have spend one and half hour to watch it. It's pathetic that someone comes up with this kind of scheme to drag on the time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie showcases the healing a man with a troubled past. He works through his demons both figuratively and literally. Quite possibly Josh's best acting and far more realistic than many would care to admit. Marina life is accurate as well as the interactions that happen during while moored. Great movie, beautiful boat. My only complaint is there not being enough footage of the Hesperus under wind power. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Hide Away is one of those unique movies that draws you in to its silence, its unfolding story, its sensitivity, and its journey. Eyre's direction is a major part of the film itself in his choices of scene, angle, perspective, pans, cut a-ways, and close-ups. The scenery is a character as much as the actors. The beauty of Lake Michigan (?), in all the seasons of this journey, has a profound effect on the viewer as well as the main character. Personally, I relate to sailboats and the seasonal themes of life on a Great Lake. This may have amplified my respect for the nearly black and white still shots that permeate this film. The fact that we never--never--know that names of the major characters is almost unnoticeable. The mysterious drama moves us forward with tense imagery and soft sympathy. We know something terrible haunts this man's past, driving him to hide away from what he cannot escape. We want him to face it and survive. Hide Away is an emotional and satisfying journey toward redemption. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member good well acted vehicle 4 josh lucas Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Josh Lucas is great but overall movie feels too slow. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review walter m "Hide Away" starts with a man(Josh Lucas) arriving at a marina to buy a boat. Unfortunately, it turns out to be something of a fixer-upper, leading him to have much less fun than the other man(Jon Tenney, of "Maxwell & King) there in the midst of a midlife crisis. Of course, the drinking does not help. Yes, "Hide Away" can be something of a slog, especially early on, as it is never any fun watching a character trying to drink himself to death. But with a little help from a good supporting cast that also includes Ayelet Zurer and James Cromwell, the movie gently shows how none of us are ever as alone as we think we are. Plus, I again admit my fondness for Josh Lucas, along with the area of the country where this movie was made. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Joe Leydon Variety A quietly contemplative, deliberately paced tale of renewal and redemption, Chris Eyre's beautifully crafted indie sails smoothly, if not downright defiantly, far beyond the commercial mainstream. Feb 1, 2021 Full Review Lisa Kennedy Denver Post A tactile, emotion-laden world of beauty, loss, recovery. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 22, 2012 Full Review Kyle Smith New York Post In "Hide Away," Josh Lucas plays an alcoholic widower who undergoes a spiritual rebirth by fixing up a sailboat, and I really wish he hadn't. Rated: 0/4 Jun 1, 2012 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation Beautifully shot, elegantly acted melodrama of the sailboating cure for what ails you. Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 25, 2013 Full Review Christian Toto Big Hollywood Josh Lucas drinks, bats his watery eyes and stares into space for nearly 90 minutes in Hide Away. And yet somehow the actor overshadows the obvious life lessons that threaten to sink the project at every turn. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 1, 2012 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru Beautifully-shot, but undercooked and too heavy on metaphors. Josh Lucas elevates the film with a strong, well-nuanced performance.
