      Critics Consensus

A change of venue -- and more sentimentality and violence -- can't obscure the fact that Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is a less inspired facsimile of its predecessor.

Antoine T More of the same: the story has the exact same structure as the first one. The storyline is even less believable though, and the traps go too far: these poor robbers should have died horribly maybe 10 times. But my kids love it as much as the first one, and it is what matters (they hate the other ones): the movie knows its audience. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Samuel B I love this movie gave me an accurate impression of being lost in New York, very helpful and informative. HOWEVER I think I saw one of the actors in a mug shot, not swag. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/26/24 Full Review Benjamin H Sure they are criminals but nobody deserves to be hit in the head over and over again by a brick. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/07/24 Full Review Blu B If someone truly thinks this is as good if not better than the original it is only because it reminds them so much of the first one and majority of the time follows the script of the original simliar to The Force Awakens or Jurassic World. I will say this is the best of the sequels though but that isn't saying much. Culkin, the new setting and the music are the best things in this. The soundtrack is solid though very simliar to the first. The acting isn't bad but really just follows the same beats character arc wise as the first. Culkin really is the best thing character wise and is solid capturing a lot of the charm of the first one again. The editing isn't that good mainly because this just follows the same structure of the first one and truly is just going on nostalgia more than anything original. Everything else is just ok about it once you strip away the nostalgia. Anything this does well the first does better. On top of that where the first had a very clever setup this one has so many plot holes and convient moments in it it really relies on you to be so nostalgic you can look past it. The basic premise of him getting lost the EXACT same way at the same time when the two goons from the first one escape prison in the exact same city and meet up at the exact same location following the same events of the first is just ridiculous. Than just a bunch of dumb moments like the repeat of the movie from the first tricking the hotel workers is so stupid. The fact they let him run out at the end without noticing again. It's just a rehash of the first just with nothing done better. Unless your super nostalgic there is no reason to watch this over the first one. Skip It. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/29/24 Full Review carolina d Por mais que seja repetitivo e com um roteiro não tão bem feito quanto o seu anterior, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, ainda continua divertido, desnecessário e engraçado. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/24 Full Review Jesse C this one wasnt as good as the first one but it was a great way to give the first a sequal and it was funnier than the first Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Duane Byrge Hollywood Reporter Culkin is breezily winning once again as the self-reliant kid alone, while Pesci and Stern deserve combat metals (especially Stern) to the bricks and slings they endure. Nov 20, 2019 Full Review Janet Maslin New York Times It's much more violent than the first film's comparable set of dirty tricks. And Kevin, removed from his embattled home, seems much more cavalier, possibly even meaner than his bullying older brother, Buzz (Devin Ratray). Jun 11, 2019 Full Review Dave Kehr Chicago Tribune The pleasures here are entirely cruel, with an unhealthy concentration on the suffering of the victims, on the thudding impact of various objects against their heads, on their howls of agony. Dec 20, 2021 Full Review PJ Nabarro Patrick Nabarro Sorely lacks the situational specificity and just the vague whiff of 'this could actually happen' from the previous film.
