Audience Member James Patterson is an amazing author and I hope he does more Women's Murder Club movies that follow the books. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Oh man! How could I have forgotten to review this terrible movie for a whole month?! And by terrible, of course, I mean fun/horrible in the way that movies I watch and love/hate often are. Ok, this movie had a lot of what I expected: plucky reporter, fake science, fake police work, zero (probably more accurately negative) chemistry between the lead gal and her beau, Lifetime-esque dialogue and acting, dump plot twists. But what I didn't expect was the strange, faux-CSI aesthetic; the phenomenally distracting and stupid anemia subplot; and the epic length (nearly 3[!] hours). Also, the lead actress... Wow. Where to begin. The lead actress played a rape victim with a two- or three-episode arc on Law and Order: SVU. During her stint as said rape victim, she went through some rape-victim metamorphosis and became this Wonder Woman avenger with a Desert Eagle. And then she convinced her rapist's wife to help her kill that rapist and pretend the murder was self-defense or something. Pretty cool, right? Right. And she did a great job with her perhaps overly perky voice and mannerisms. But perky voice and mannerisms do not sustain a three-hour movie. Especially when that perky voice and those mannerisms have to be anemic in some scenes and a "bad cop" interrogator in some scenes and a romantic lead in some scenes. And of course, the most lamentable part of the deal is that the gal who plays Abbie Carmichael on Law and Order is a much more palatable actress--one whom you don't want to scream at to quit whining, at least--plays this same character in the TV show that is based on the same series of books. And then, the gal who played the lead in this movie could've been the plucky reporter or something. A role more suited to her (intensely grating) perky voice. One more thing. If you do happen to watch this movie--which I neither recommend nor do not recommend as it was kind of fun to watch but not altogether a great use of time--don't be tricked. That exciting scene at the beginning where we think the lead character is going to commit suicide has nothing really to do with anything else in the plot. It's really just to cheaply pique our interest. Goodness, I could probably talk about this movie for a much longer time, even though I watched it a month ago. So maybe it was better than I thought. I doubt it, though. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member I absolutley loved Robert Patrick in this, he was so charming yet so scary. This was a great adaptation of James Patterson's amazing novel. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member James Patterson is an amazing author and I hope he does more Women's Murder Club movies that follow the books. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member I was really disappointed with this film. I'm a huge fan of the book and the rest of the series but this just wasn't anywhere up to scratch. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member a good bit of detective work, but not the best acting Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Allan Johnson Chicago Tribune A three-hour piece that needn't be that long, and a confusing end, is offset by a top-notch cast (Pam Grier, Robert Patrick, Megan Gallagher, Sean Young, Carly Pope and Gil Bellows) and sure direction by the visually adept Russell Mulcahy ("Highlander").
