Cary Fukunaga directs a fiery and elegant adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's classic novel, and Mia Wasikowska delivers possibly the best portrayal of the title character ever.

Cora B This version leaves out all relevant scenes ans dialogues and is so far from Brontë's intentions like 2006. Its not a Austen lovestory neither a teeny nor an education or redemption novel. Biggest misunderstanding. Jane is a passionate girl not such fearful shy one. In 90 min there isn t possible to show the book.Only what ovious is that she os not sincer. Jane Eyre means Jane's Odyssee and is oriented on Homer and Pilgrimage. Rochester is played well, but his monotonous declamation of the dialogues explain why all key scenes are not there. Only oriented on estetical optical. St. John is far away from book. Next to the fanfiction of 2006 far at thr novel most, i hate this most. Sorry but there are worlds to thr actors class and authenticy of the series 1983 which don t captures thr gothic and sensuality and passion, but at least the dialogues and characters are truthful . Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review Shannon D Holy smokes! I am a hopeless romantic and feel 100% this is the best Jane Eyre! I give this one an enthusiastic 5 stars for the acting, the scenery, the screenplay, the music, everything. So well done. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Rose P The best adaptation of Jane Eyre I've seen. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/19/23 Full Review James D This movie was basically a condensed paraphrase of the Jane Eyre story and it was like a slap in the face to author Charlotte Bronte. There is NO character development and it was very disjointed. This movie reminds me of Pride & Prejudice 2005 with Keira Knightly which also suffered from the exact same thing as Jane Eyre 2011 (except that Mia Wasikowska is a better actress than Knightly). If you want an excellent full movie version of Jane Eyre, then see the 5-hour 1983 version with Timothy Dalton. Don't waste your time and attention on anything else. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review John O Spoilers: What an homage to not just before-its-time feminist equality, but also an ode to the kind of persistence that a stratified politico-socio-religio-economic caste system takes to navigate for someone fearless and intent on being herself or even himself. It is also an ode to Charlotte Bronte's 1847 classic paean to resilience amid abuse and deprivation, and to the human spirit's refusal to stay down, with Buffini's screenplay emphasizing that the heart wants what it wants, and if you are determined enough, efforts to oppress, suppress, depress and compress it will fail, as it will find its way if you can take the pain getting there. All four seemed to have not one sour note throughout -- the brilliant Mia, the nuanced Michael, the always-complex Jamie and the wonderful Judi. Add a period physical feel and wonderful cinematography. Humility and religiosity can make one humble and willing to sacrifice a lot, but at some point, the real you may rule the day, as did Jane, Mia, here. She did even as a child, by telling off the imperious, deceiving but fake nice Sally Hawkins, in a brief but good role, as Sally always turns in. Deborah Ross The Spectator What it does right it does very right. It is stunningly mounted, for example... But what it does wrong is fatal, and the error is this: it just isn't passionate or sexy enough. Aug 31, 2018 Full Review Anna Smith metro.co.uk Jane Eyre triumphs with a suitably bleak landscape and an excellent performance from Michael Fassbender, but the restrained tone lets it down. If anyone ever had multiple reasons to repeatedly throw in the towel and give up, it would be Jane.
