Kieron Corless Sight & Sound On the whole Janice herself is an endearing, eccentric creation but the film lacks the sharpness that might capture the public's imagination as Billy Liar did back in the early 60s. Dec 2, 2002 Full Review Andrew Sarris Observer All ends well, sort of, but the frenzied comic moments never click. May 17, 2002 Full Review Stephen Holden New York Times As Janice, Eileen Walsh, an engaging, wide-eyed actress whose teeth are a little too big for her mouth, infuses the movie with much of its slender, glinting charm. Rated: 3.5/5 May 11, 2002 Full Review Antonia Quirke Independent on Sunday With its primary colour-scheme, and cast playing people with half their IQs, the film is a zestless. Nov 28, 2017 Full Review Apollo Guide Rated: 75/100 May 13, 2005 Full Review Christopher Null Filmcritic.com we don't care much what happens to Janice Rated: 2.5/5 Nov 9, 2003 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member A cute and quirky little romantic film. Quite and in-her-own world Janice takes an unglamorous job as a typist (a job she only got because a friend helped her get it) at a car manufacturing company while telling her house bound mother untrue stories of an exciting and fanciful life in order to entertain her mother and I believe also herself. However, while trying to appear productive and "normal" in her boring job she finds herself in a new and exciting relationship with Sean who is better than anything she has yet to imagine...but what exactly are his true feelings and intentions towards her? Pretty good. Uh? Twice in one day? Wow, is the world going to end. No, I just got off my lazy butt. LOL! Any way the film that I’m going to tell you about now is called; “Janice Beard: 45 WPM (Words per Minute)”. I really like this film. It’s a cute corky comedy. This film is basically a non thinking fun movie. Even though at times this film was a bit predictable it didn’t take away from the movie experience. The writing was very creative and imaginative which is really rare for films now days. I thought the cast which included Rhys Ifans (who is becoming one of my favorite comedic actors), Eileen Walsh, and Patsy Kensit among a cast that did a wonderful job at making the characters come to life. “Janice Beard: 45 WPM” is about a young woman by the name of Janice Beard who has had a vivid imagination all her life. When she moves from Scotland to London in search of a job to help pay for her mom’s therapy she realizes her imagination can help her cope with the day to day ills. The only jobs she is able to land is temp jobs (hence 45 WPM). She gets fired from her first job and ends up almost getting kicked out of her apartment. A friend comes to her rescue by getting Janice a job at her work which is a car company. Let’s just say that Janice’s imagination helps and hinders her in her new found profession. I would suggest this film to any one. It is a perfect Sunday lazy afternoon movie. The DVD does have a pretty good bonus feature. Please see what you think. Silly story about a couple who meet that love to make up stories. I gave this only three stars bc it is a movie to see one time. Nice for a little humorous romantic story but I wouldnt watch it again. Not very memorable and not unique enough to come back to.
