Not long after returning home from the war to Hortonville, Wis., Dick (Robert Hutton) decides to marry and settle down with his girlfriend, Janie (Joan Leslie). Janie gets Dick a job writing for her father's newspaper, but domestic life isn't going as either spouse had planned. Dick asks Spud (Dorothy Malone), a visiting friend from the Army, to stay with him and Janie while in town, and things come to a head when Janie discovers that Army buddy Spud is an attractive woman.
