      Critics Consensus

Jersey Boys is neither as inventive nor as energetic as it could be, but there's no denying the powerful pleasures of its musical moments.

Alec B Eastwood's the right guy to make a movie about The Four Seasons, unfortunately a lot of the cast are amateurish over-actors, the make-up is laughably awful, and the source material was never strong enough to work as anything but a flashy stage show designed to feed baby boomers insatiable nostalgia. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/13/23 Full Review Amy P John Lloyd Young exceptionally recreates his Tony winning performance as Frankie Valli. The movie allows for a deeper telling of this the story of the Four Season. The musical performances are amazing. What is often overlooked is that ALL of the actors are singing LIVE! They are not lip syncing. This is an entertaining movie with great acting. I highly recommend this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/16/23 Full Review Mark C Really pulled off that older style. Great songs Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/19/23 Full Review Bruno G R It was so bad I watched it in fast forward till I got to SOMETHING I thought would be good. Not many spots. I totally loved the Broadway play, seen it 3 times, paid for my brother n his wife to see the Broadway Play. I would say the non Broadway actors, bad camera shots and lighting were the doom of this play. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Great adaptation of the musical! Found Walkens character a bit unnecessary. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Scott A I love Frankie Valli and didn't like Tommy De Vito's behaviour and he didn't care about them but himself Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/18/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Dwight Brown National Newspaper Publishers Association [Eastwood] displays his strong suits: music, drama and evocative cinematography. Mar 7, 2017 Full Review Sophie Gilbert The Atlantic A scattered, haphazard, thoroughly confused film that can't figure out if it's meant to be a winningly cutesy musical or a gritty narrative about life in crime-ridden 1950s New Jersey. Dec 31, 2015 Full Review Eddie Cockrell The Australian The combination of... [Woody Allen & Clint Eastwood] has resulted in a Broadway adaptation that hums with vigour, sings with the capricious unpredictability of fate and fame, and does firm and lasting justice to the legacy of that vintage studio logo. Rated: 4/5 Jul 9, 2014 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …a straight bio-pic, with diegetic music only either as the soundtrack to montages or when the band perform… Rated: 3/5 Sep 16, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Eastwood’s firmly established love of music doesn’t necessarily mean he’s attuned to the snappy, energetic presentation this production required to both channel the Broadway show and ensnare moviegoers. Rated: 2/4 Aug 15, 2022 Full Review Robert Sims Lights Camera Austin Clint Eastwood's admittedly classy take on the Tony Award-winning Jersey Boys lacks the energy of Dreamgirls and the showmanship of Chicago.
