Audience Member I saw this movie on a Lufthansa flight to the U.S. Since the volume control wasn't working, I thought I should see a foreign movie with subtitles. While the language is German, the movie is actually Swiss and set in Bern. As the IMDB synopsis indicates, the movie is about aging and people's differing attitudes toward aging. The plot follows four different story lines -- Giulia, who allows herself to be picked up by an older man visiting from Hamburg; her friends who have gathered in a restaurant to celebrate her 50th birthday; two teen-agers who are looking for a birthday gift for a friend; and an old woman, who told Giulia on the bus that the old are invisible and who visits her mother in an assisted living facility. Although there is little overt action, the movie is engrossing as the various characters talk and reveal their hopes and dreams and fears. The acting is well done, especially Corinna Harfouch as Giulia, and makes one reflect on the various ways that people deal with aging and the fact of their mortality. I've seen very few German-language films, but the ones that I've seen (Good-bye Lenin, The Lives of Others) have invariably been first rate.
