Critics Consensus

Despite the relaxed, easy chemistry of stars Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, Larry Crowne is surprisingly bland and conventional.

Tom Hanks directs himself in this, and also wrote the original script, so if you ever thought you can't have too much Hanks here is something else to blow your mind: you so, so can. Go to Full Review

An exceedingly minor entry on already impressive resums. Go to Full Review

To pluck romantic comedy from the jaws of a social crisis is a laudable project, worthy of Preston Sturges, and it's a pity that this featherlight drama-written by Tom Hanks and Nia Vardalos, and directed by Hanks himself-should falter in its task. Go to Full Review

The film delivers the right charming notes at the right kind of dramatic time. Go to Full Review

After appearing together in Charlie Wilson’s War, Hanks and Roberts reunite and display plenty of chemistry in this rather plain, unpretentious, but somewhat uninvolving romantic comedy. Go to Full Review

James L Nov 27 Won't stress your mind but rather sooth it. Even older guys have a chance particularly if they open themselves to new experiences. Julia Roberts can smile a scene into submission. Agree that is somewhat predictable but found it very enjoyable none-the-less! See more Kevin M Nov 9 Just came across this. I enjoyed it. Hanks and Roberts were refreshing. The rest of the cast was enjoyable too. See more Matthew B Oct 17 I thought it was a great movie. I've seen it at least 3 times. It's fun and light hearted. We need more movies like this. See more Robert W Aug 20 I love Tom Hanks as an actor but I'm afraid this outing is derivative and unbelievable. Despite the acting talent on display this effort falls way short of even the average romantic comedy. We're expected to believe that because Larry Crowne rides a scooter he is adopted by a young, nubile, intellectual Aphrodite despite being at least a generation older than her. And then to cap it all love is fostered with his teacher after just one evening's doorstep fumbling. Advice: Watch "Notting Hill" or "A Man Called Otto" instead. See more Sheila G Apr 16 All the good movies on Netflix I have now watched and I am now watching the ones I rejected first time round. However, I came across Larry Crowe ( with an ‘e’) Q hysterical laughter and I’m afraid to say that was about the only laugh in the film. I like Tom Hanks and that’s the reason I watched it as most of his movies are worth watching. This was one of the worst movies I have seen in a very long time, lame stereotypes and absolutely no substance Don’t waste your time on this. See more Mar 8 don’t exspect too much of a rom-com but with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts? i mean it’s very cute and simple there is nothing more to say See more Read all reviews
