Critics Consensus

Live Free or Die Hard may be preposterous, but it's an efficient, action-packed summer popcorn flick with thrilling stunts and a commanding performance by Bruce Willis. Fans of the previous Die Hard films will not be disappointed.

David Ansen Newsweek But ultimately it's [Bruce] Willis who makes this loopy action movie so endearing...Nobody dies it better. Feb 6, 2018 Full Review Kim Newman Sight & Sound Though it's mostly entertaining (if overlong), there is a sense that the whole thing has become somewhat rote. Jun 18, 2012 Full Review Ben Walters Time Out Len Wiseman handles many of the set-pieces with flair and tension. Rated: 3/5 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Even though NYPD Det. John McClane doesn’t always feel like the McClane we know and love, director Len Wiseman does such a wonderful job orchestrating bravado shootouts, fights, and chases that our most basic entertainment needs are met. Rated: 3/4 Jan 6, 2024 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Audiences looking for heartfelt drama and a realistic plot are certainly courting the wrong movie. Rated: 7/10 Nov 26, 2020 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) This worthy addition to the Die Hard franchise sticks to a refreshingly old-fashioned (but no less effective) action formula throughout. David C Es buena la película tiene mucha acción Dura de Matar 4.0 es sin duda una de las mejores Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/25 Full Review Jason S 🌀COLLECTION RATING 88% Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/25 Full Review Ralph R Live Free or Die Hard (2007) is easily the best sequel so far, bringing a fresh and creative twist to the franchise. The plot introduces a modern cyber-terrorism angle that keeps things engaging, and the script does a good job balancing action, humor, and tension. The pacing is well-executed, though the first act moves a little faster than it should, almost like the movie is in a hurry to get to the action. Bruce Willis delivers as McClane, maintaining his signature attitude, while Justin Long adds a solid dynamic as his unexpected sidekick. The story feels unique compared to the previous sequels, making it stand out in a good way. The directing is sharp, and the cinematography makes every action scene feel big and polished, but this is also where things get excessive. The action goes from intense to completely over-the-top, with sequences that feel more like something out of a superhero movie than Die Hard. It is fun to watch, but it takes away from the grounded, desperate energy that made the first film a classic. The score and sound design keep the intensity high, fitting well with the fast-paced nature of the film. While it pushes the limits of what Die Hard should be, it is still an entertaining ride and the best sequel so far, even if it does not fully recapture the original’s magic. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/25 Full Review Justin W I really like the Fire Sale storyline, it's one of it's kind and provide how it will taste like especially everything on the internet nowadays. The action was awesome, just wondering how long McClean can continue doing this. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/25 Full Review thiago s Filme bacaninha, o roteiro é mais ou menos, o filme tem cenas de ação boas, john mcClane volta para salvar um cara que sabe de computação, a história do filme é fraca, e o vilão também é fraco, uma cena sem sentido foi dentro do túnel completamente apagado que todos carros aceleraram de medo em vez de ficaremparados para nao seram acertados, e o moleque saiu do carro que cena sem sentido do caralho, Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review Mr. Beans R at this point this wasn't fun any more, I forgot this movie existed Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review Read all reviews
