12/11/2021 This is one of the most sought after lost films of the silent era. This was the most commercially successful collaborative film between Chaney and Browning. The storyline is somewhat incoherent and nonsensical. It is a story certain to disturb for its time. Therefore, this is very difficult if not impossible to score impartially. Having viewed this piecemeal version, I understood the story and again can only imagine the delivery from a master such as Lon Chaney.
