Following a spat with their son's bossy mother-in-law (Barbara Brown) after their first grandchild is born, Ma and Pa Kettle (Marjorie Main, Percy Kilbride) temporarily move back to their old tumbledown farm. When evidence of uranium ore is discovered on Pa's clothes after he falls into a well, the family must dodge greedy speculators who want their suddenly valuable land. Meanwhile, daughter-in-law Kim (Meg Randall) decides to leave Tom (Richard Long) after he snaps at her mother.
