Chaos erupts at a Liverpool, England, pub when an error in scheduling means two groups of older men have booked the venue for a celebration at the same time. Making things even worse, one cadre is a bunch of dedicated Roman Catholics from Ireland, the other is a gathering of devoted Protestants. The evening's entertainment only aggravates the tense situation, with a raucous punk ensemble being followed by a frazzled magician known as Rosco de Ville (Elvis Costello).

"No Surrender"pretends to be a black comedy, but it really isn't -- it's just sour. Go to Full Review

…a brilliant comedy that’s been comprehensively buried as saying far too much about how religious bigotry infuses British life to this day. It’s a Play for Today on steroids… Go to Full Review

06/03/2009 It has a very unique premise that builds to sheer comedic pandemonium but it failed to create any empathy with any of the characters (unlike Bleasedale's other work). Great performances all round but it just generally seemed lacking. See more 02/14/2009 A nightclub is beset by two violently opposed groups of poison-tongued elderly! The new manager, a Ringo Starr lookalike-soundalike, tries to control the mayhem! Comedy, violence, and tenderness abound! Corey Feldman fights karate! (Oops, wrong movie.) See more 11/30/2008 A superb film that has sadly been nearly forgotten about and is not out on dvd at present. They have the wrong cover scan here on Facebook. The one here is for a 1994 Martial Arts movie not Alan Bleasdales black humoured comedy set in Liverpool in the mid 1980s. A newly appointed night club manager mistakenly takes 2 sets of bookings from groups of pensioners for a New Years Party only to find himself in the middle of a sectarian scurmish between the 2 sets of pensioners with personal grudges going back 50 years or more. Very dark humour and very funny - a real insight to the Liverpool of the 1980s and before. Well worth seeking out and I do hope it gets a dvd issue as it's a great film. See more 11/24/2008 One of my all time favourite movies. Flixter has indeed put an incorrect cover photo. This film will give you an invaluable insight into scouse (Liverpudlian) humour, societal divisions and politics of the time without being preachy. Very funny and moving. Brilliant! See more 07/05/2008 Brilliant film, perfect acting. Bleak, funny, and extremely black. Flixter would appear to have the wrong cover for this one though as its a film set in a Liverpudlian working mens club, not an american martial arts film!!
