Critics Consensus

With few narrative missteps, Office delivers a soft critique of capitalism elegantly wrapped in a one-of-a-kind, three-dimensional musical.

J. R. Jones Chicago Reader After a while the overpacked plot begins to feel like an afternoon meeting that won't end. Dec 3, 2015 Full Review Ignatiy Vishnevetsky AV Club For his first official foray into the genre, To brings his usual knack for cutting movement and stunningly composing figures against space to a world of pure stylization. Rated: B+ Sep 24, 2015 Full Review Justin Chang Variety Johnnie To and Sylvia Chang's stage-to-screen musical is a dazzling entertainment set against the backdrop of the 2008 financial crisis. Audience Member Interesting way of filming and story. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member (Another one) a very strong smell of "made in China". Better than thought, but still far from remarkable. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Over board in setting and lighting, bad tunes and forceful chemistry. It's just a torture, like a Monday early morning meeting which we all wish could end sooner. Worst is when directors are trying to kill 2 bird with one stone, pleasing the HK and China market at one go - the mix of Cantonese and Mandarin is unbearable.. to the point at some scenes, the actor themselves are not too sure if they are suppose to converse in Cantonese and Mandarin. Such a disgrace.. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm not that into musical films, but this is a good story. People always sell themselves and think they didn't do it on purpose at the very beginning, piece by piece .. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Starts off okay but then it gets a little to Moulin Rouge for me. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
