Even the slightest tug on a thread unravels the story's weaknesses and inconsistencies, although the film does offer an interesting portrait of an immediately post-war Britain of austerity and food rationing.

The comparatively unknown cast prove more than equal to the demands made upon them. Peggy Evans, as Penny, is a sparkling heroine, who not only looks extremely attractive but acts with naturalness and charm as well.
