Critics Consensus

A middling sci-fi entry, Skyline offers proof that solid special effects alone cannot overcome a flat storyline filled with uninspired dialogue.

Birithivy Y Skyline - 1/10. I remember it like it was yesterday. There was an exam the next day. And during those days, I would watch like 3/4 movies a day (instead of studying, which is so stupid of me to do but whatever, it happened). But yeah, I remember seeing the trailer of this online, and being hyped to seeing this. It finally was available to watch online, and I was super pumped to watch the movie. I thought “who cares about that exam, I will pass it! Lets just watch this movie which looks like a great time.” I was not prepared for what I was about to watch. Imagine they made a movie solely on the idea of showcasing CGI done on a minuscule budget (and doing a heck of a job with the kind of money they were working with), and not having a proper story to work with. That is Skyline for you. Its a shame that this movie has no proper story, cause had it had one, this would’ve been an excellent triumph in independent cinema. Yes the directors have worked on blockbusters and there’s some talent here that have worked on some big projects, but overall, this is an indie sci fi film with fantastic visual effects for a minuscule budget. And that’s heartbreaking to see because of the well intentioned intentions here. Its just so dull and bad in terms of story. It gets boring too, which is such a sad thing as well. So that’s time I can never get back sadly. And worst of all, I failed that exam. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Korra N Skyline is a strange movie. It barely hits the so-bad-it's-good margin, with some genuinely great visual effects and awesome creature designs, but they're mostly wasted on an abysmal script, sightless direction and acting that ranges from wooden to overly soap-operatic. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 09/04/24 Full Review Jelisije J If you want to watch Independence Day, but only through the eyes of the civilians then this is the scfy film for you. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review Terra T This was made before the Marvel movies came into existence. These invasion movies are unwatchable now in 2024, sorry. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/27/24 Full Review Daniel G A bit of déjà vu, because in 2018 I watched the sequel. Actually, not as bad as the sequel - a most definite "meh, it passed the time" movie. The special effects and action not terrible at all and the acting could have been worse. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/16/24 Full Review Grandpa E We play a game when we watch a new movie, and try to guess the RT rating within the first 10 or 15 min. I guessed 29% for this one. Clearly I was a bit optimistic. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/24 Full Review Read all reviews
