Terminator Genisys

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Mired in its muddled mythology, Terminator: Genisys is a lurching retread that lacks the thematic depth, conceptual intelligence, or visual thrills that launched this once-mighty franchise.

Sarah Marshall Bitch Media This film should be more on-point than ever, since technology has taken over our lives. But rather than actively antagonizing us, technology simply allows us easy ways to indulge in laziness and cruelty. Jan 28, 2021 Full Review Nick Schager The Daily Beast To watch Genisys is to see the franchise become a figurative embodiment of the Terminators themselves: convinced of its own superior vision of the future, it tramples upon the dusty skeletons of the forefathers it's slaughtered to achieve it. Oct 23, 2015 Full Review Emily St. James Vox The Terminator franchise has forgotten what made The Terminator and Terminator 2 so great. Rated: 1.5/5 Oct 23, 2015 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson As flashy as it is with tremendous and eye-popping special effects, it has created an extremely convoluted mess of merged timelines and revisionist storytelling that treads all over what made the 1984 original and superior 1991 sequel so great. Rated: 2/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine I found this fifth film genuinely unwatchable. Rated: 2/10 Jun 6, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies A ‘Terminator’ film brings with it certain high expectations (from some audiences), and “Genisys” doesn’t meet them. Ryan R I believe this film was pretty good but not perfect. There a some flaws in the story but it still is a very great film and an entertaining action that I recommend people should see. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review Richard J The absolute low point of the franchise Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review Simon C Why? So confusing, ripping off lines that were classics in previous terminator movies… Sarah Connor (sorry but acting was shocking) says come with me if you want to live… I had to switch off at this point… came back after I recovered, wish I hadn’t. So clunky and that’s not even talking about the machines… casting terrible, we loved Kyle in previous Terminator because he didn’t look like a body builder, he was just your average bloke yet they ruined his character too with this meat head. My advice leave this corporate attempt at getting a few more bucks out of a classic. This kind of goo should be filtered by Terminator fans goers before going to the public. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/18/24 Full Review Jonathan K I'm actually fine with the mythology here and its pieces. I feel like it had the components to be an entertaining action flick and reboot of the franchise. But it's sorely lacking in charisma or likability from the actors. Jai Courtney is about as charismatic as a protein bar. Together the two main characters are simply too combative and standoffish to believe any chemistry or love between them, and the attempts at emotional moments are abrupt and uneven, coming at unexpected times. Even Hans Zimmer in a backseat capacity (he served as the Executive Producer of the score) is too good for this script. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/02/24 Full Review Bronwyn D This movie is SO BAD that I barely know what else to write. Okay, the half star I'll give to the liquid metal visual effects. The rest is 100% HORRIBLE. TERRIBLE story, dialogue, & acting. Now I just have to try & erase it from my mind. Because Terminator & Terminator 2 were both AWESOME. Thanks for trying to ruin. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/01/24 Full Review Robert T Not much to say about it Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/28/24 Full Review Read all reviews
