Audience Member Goofy plot with silly characters, and a monster that fits in with Tokusatsu. It's slow, there's not much to the story, and it ends in lackluster, but the zany moments are enjoyable. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member It's hard to wrap your mind around what the people who made Revenge of Dr. X (AKA The Devil Garden, AKA The Double Garden, AKA Venus Flytrap) were thinking when they put this pile of crap together. The title is basically like The Last House on the Left: there's no Dr. X and there's no one who wants revenge, at all. It's one of the most misleading titles I think I've ever come across. At least The Last House on the Left was better than its dumb title. The film was penned by Ed Wood, so you can imagine the quality of it. The thing is though, no matter what Wood had a hand in, it ended up being terrible. He didn't even direct this thing. Oh well. You can get a few unintentional laughs out of this movie, especially with the crew from Rifftrax, but on its own, it's a tough sit-through. Boring, awful and just plain bad. Easily a skippable one. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Mill Creek's 50 Movie Pack: Chilling Classics Reviews Edward D Wood JR's BODY OF PREY/ THE DOUBLE GARDEN/ THE DEVIL GARDEN/ VENUS FLYTRAP/ THE REVENGE OF DR X [1966/1970]: agedly based upon a screenplay by none other than Mr Edward D Wood JR (AKA Ed Wood). Titled everything from BODY OF PREY to VENUS FLYTRAP; (for the sake of this review) THE REVENGE OF DR X has all the warped, quirky features of an Ed-woodian story. To cut to the chase the film is about a crazed NASA scientist who has to take some time away from the organisation for the sake of his mental health. He then takes a vacation in rural Japan where he experiments on a Venus flytrap which leads him to create a Humanoid Flytrap monster. Yup this has Ed Wood written all over it. THOUGHTS: Considering that this is a monster movie and that the fact the films runtime of 94 minutes. The Godamm, gobsmacking, crappy looking monster does not appear until the 1 hour, 3 minutes, and 46 second mark! Most the film is dedicated to rather dull scenes of bland dialogue, the scientist having mood swings, talking to his interest and of course experimenting on a Venus flytrap makes this film worthy of a solid 40%. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member right on scientist man Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member #19 of the 50 'chilling' films. I love the fact that this film, The Revenge of Dr X, involves no revenge and no Dr X. Even better is that the reason for this is the makers accidentally attached the wrong credits to the top of the film. With care like this going into the production, you just know it's gonna be great. It isn't, it was quite boring in places - I had to make a pot of tea to keep myself awake, but it's few plus points are super plus points. Our mad hero, James Craig, who flies into a rage at the slightest thing. The atrocious venus-flytrap-man-monster. Stock footage of rockets and volcanoes. The doctor's Japanese assistant with a clumsy handle on the English language. The hunchback (!) janitor whose appearances on screen are always accompanied by Bach's toccata. The 50 minutes of U certificate pontification which is suddenly interrupted by a scene involving 4 topless diver women. That last one in particular I quite liked. Available on google video, by the way. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This obscure movie is watchable and laughable owing to its date of production and interesting acting more than anything. It is interesting to note that there is actually no revenge or any Doctor X, for that matter. This movie is more like a blend of "Little Shop of Horrors," "Day of the Triffids" and "Frankenstein." The topless divers are an interesting sideline, probably distraction for some. This is a typical Ed Wood movie, though he isn't acknowledged in the opening credits.
