It's the last day of World War II and Thomas Noonan (Tommy Noonan) is drafted into the army. He is sent to a decommissioned military facility, kept open just for him, where Sgt. Peter Marshall (Pete Marshall) is assigned to administer basic training. While there, Noonan falls for Marshall's fiancée, movie star Lili Marlene (Julie Newmar).
