Critics Consensus

Concocted with all the restraint of a mad scientist's experiment, THE BRIDE! lurches in so many different creative directions that the overall effect is both sloppy and inspired.

This gorgeously debauched film amounts to a chaotic, an uneven but oddly beautiful collision of ideas, all captured by an agitated camera as electrically charged as the life force that reanimates the bride herself. Go to Full Review

Not a monstrous disaster. More a case of something old, something new, something borrowed – but lacking glue. Go to Full Review

Elliot M 1h Love a big swing. I wanted to live r See more Aidan Proko 8h This movie felt like Maggie Gyllenhaal trying to say something about women’s liberation and toppling the patriarchy, but the mish-mash of tones, plots, and character motivations that are said to us but not truly felt without Jessie Buckley’s schizophrenic performance felt like a director looking at what Todd Philips did with Joker and being like, “Ok let’s do that but with Bride of Frankenstein.” Buckley and Christian Bale have great chemistry as these lost monsters but I cannot help but think the script was undercooked because it felt unfinished. To those who will compare it to Joker: Folie à Deux, I will say this movie is slightly better, but only marginally as I just prefer the 1930’s Bonnie and Clyde vibes and Lynchian aspects that Gyllenhaal tries to emulate. Whether or not she succeeds in that is up to you. But it certainly didn’t feel like it worked for me. Is an interesting reimagining of the Bride of Frankenstein story. Jessie Buckley gives a wildly electric and crazy performance as The Bride. Its visually stunning and theres a lot of appealing things in the film but once its all said and done is just a mediocre story and mediocre film. Wait for streaming! See more Read all reviews
