Dennis Harvey Variety A zombie by any other name is still a zombie in this utterly routine horror pic. Sep 23, 2013 Full Review Godfrey Cheshire RogerEbert.com The filmmakers' aversion to any hint of storytelling originality means that the main impression "The Colony" leaves is one of almost stupefying over-familiarity. Rated: 1.5/4 Sep 20, 2013 Full Review Kyle Smith New York Post A screaming, lunging, chomping chase movie that has nothing new to bring to a genre that just won't die. Rated: 1.5/5 Sep 20, 2013 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film The Colony starts off strong but ultimately falls flat due to bad visuals, lower-than-average acting outside Fishburne and Paxton and the story isn’t new and doesn’t add excitement for me to care. Rated: C+ Aug 15, 2024 Full Review Alix Turner Ready Steady Cut A post-apocalyptic survival thriller which looks great, but isn't as exciting as it should have been. Rated: 2/5 Feb 3, 2021 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com While it certainly never transcends its B movie trappings, a valiant attempt by its two lead performers helps distract from some of the larger faults and obvious use of distracting CGI. Jason G Not the best but not the worst. I think it’s funny people think they know science as one cannot see their breath when several hundreds of feet beneath the earth’s surface regardless if in ice age type weather or not. You can tell by the presence of liquid water. This is not director laziness as so much evidence would not be apparent. Also one would expect with few people left alive that someone would be stupid and ask the question “do you think this machine still works”. Obviously I know it doesn’t but I’m sure people who watched it thought “does it work?” Expecting an answer. Again not lazy directing just us assuming the best out of the lesser intellectually capable people that are more than likely present in abundance during this type of situation. Lastly, when has Hollywood ever done anything within reason. End of the world overkill scenarios, inbred people that can be stabbed multiple times, even super hero powers have been enhanced over time with Superman being able to fly instead of jump building to building (how impossible is that). If it’s fiction why should it be realistic? It is advertised as a sci-fi action film. So if a mutated humanoid can take a bullet to the head, who am I to judge/argue. I’d watch a documentary or smthng if I expected anything less. People just didn’t like it because it’s Canadian. Don’t listen to the reviews give it a watch. I know I put it off long enough bc of the “bad” reviews. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review Seb L Absolut unterhaltsam… kann man sich mal ansehen. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/15/24 Full Review Jean-Philippe B This movie was great! It got me since the beginning. A survival team on a colony go find out for another colony on a post-apocalyptic winter. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/14/24 Full Review Davide C Please don't waste your time. Really. Only way to explain is via SPOILER: In a completely frozen world with permanent snowing weather, a colony, living in a sort of fortress, receives a distress signal from another colony, 3 people leave to investigate. They travel through frozen lands, totally unequipped for the extreme cold. They spend the night inside a helicopter, no fire, no breath mist. They arrive to the colony and, of course, they find a guy that is so confused that he can: - recharge a computer; - show a video of a guy who fixed a weather tower to get the weather warm again and asking for seeds to plant; - say they sent a team to find the guy; - say that some random people followed back; BUT he cannot say the fricking word "CANNIBALS"!!! So the 3 people go looking for the random people, of course, find them butchering people of the colony and start a little a show where cannibals look at them hissing, almost unarmed, and got easily shot because they are nothing more than simpletons. BUT of course, somehow, cannibals can put some heavy difficulty on the 3 people armed with guns and rifles… One of the 3 survives and manages to escape and go back to his colony, after a night spent in the extreme cold and snow, while the 20 cannibal simpletons, some of them almost naked, easily follow his traces (that snow didn't covered) and arrive to the colony. Inside the colony there's an idiot who performed a coup d'etat and doesn't believe the only survivor (who cannot say the fricking word "CANNIBALS"!!!), so the 20 cannibal simpletons, of course, are able to destroy reinforced steel doors only with pipes and blades and go inside bringing havoc amongst people heavily armed. A lot of people die uselessly, the boss of the cannibals doesn't die after being hit 30 times on the head with an iron weapon but, in the end, he got beheaded. Survivors decide to travel to the warm area. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/31/24 Full Review Ari B Original and underrated. I wish there was a sequel. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/22/24 Full Review Gabrielle H Way better than the latest, sci-fi movie-series that have been released lately. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Read all reviews
