Anton Bitel Sight & Sound a knowing pastiche of the giallo genre, so incoherent and ridiculous it could almost pass for the genuine article... felt at times overstretched and perhaps could have done after all with the touch of "the world's greatest editor". Jan 2, 2015 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety Even those who get the joke here may find it wearing thin after a while. Sep 11, 2014 Full Review Emma Wolfe SpookyAstronauts Just a bundle of fun but what I will say about it is you have to be in the right headspace to watch it. Rated: 8/10 May 11, 2021 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Those unfamiliar with the type of film being parodied may feel lost, but even so, The Editor is silly and entertaining and filled with a passionate admiration for the films it's modeled after. Rated: 3/5 Oct 21, 2020 Full Review Ethan Vestby The Film Stage In turning to the giallo with their new film The Editor, an especially mean-spirited horror subgenre, the filmmakers leave an especially bad taste. Rated: D Feb 21, 2016 Full Review Norman Wilner NOW Toronto The Editor does its best to out-genre the genre, lovingly piling ridiculous complications and demented flashbacks on top of unconvincing dubbing, perfect genre references and plenty of nudity and gore. IrateTyrant C Looking for a fun horror film? This was a great movie, and I decided to watch it only because of the involvement of Brut Carpenter and Udo Kier, and later found out about the director's connection with "The Human Centipede." Brut Carpenter makes a great stand-in for Ennio Morricone, and in many ways his acoustic visions make the film stronger, with surreal already oozing out of its various plot points. Although it stretches for David Lynch's dash of macarbe, it more easily fills its scene with more modernist parody than indeed the most laugh-track inspired episodes of "Twin Peaks." It is pitched as a spin on the Italian Giallo films of Dario Argento, but leans much more heavily on B-Movie techniques more popularized by Hollywood. Harvey portrays the titular character as a hardly-relatable, yet intriguing persona, whose disconnection at points of surreal thematic injections may seem band-aided with plot-convolution; but for more experienced viewers actually brings to light the inner turmoil of the true acting spirit whose source is credible, rather than irrelevant as seen in many of the more replicated plot premises within the horror genre. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/29/23 Full Review Edwin O If you are familiar with Giallo films then this is a must watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/28/22 Full Review Audience Member One of the weirdest films I've ever seen. Like, really weird. A masterful editor loses the fingers on one hand and his life goes to hell. His wife disrespects him and he can't land a decent job, plus there's some crazy loon killing people and lopping off their fingers, making it look like he's the culprit. And maybe he is, but of course he can't be. Those whacky Canadians dial the schlock up to 11 in this hilarious b-grade romp. Expect plenty of gratuitous tits and ass, blood soaked knife attacks and guts all over the editing suite before the final deliriously incoherent denouement. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A great spoof of the Giallo italian films of the 70's. All the conventions are so perfect, made me laugh outloud. Tongue-in-cheek humour works best when done properly, and this film nails it. Can't understand why it got such low ratings on this site. But when it comes to those horrible superhero movies, everybody seems to give that kinda shit great reviews. It just goes to show the lousy taste in movies people have. And that's why I don't rely on any ratings from RT! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Extremely well done, they nailed the Giallo genre along with so much tongue and cheek. The Editor's madness is palpable. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Couldn't finish it. It's a comedy that's also a B-movie slasher. I'm not a big fan of comedy along with my horror (it's like pineapple on pizza for me) so take this review with a grain of salt. For people who like that stuff then this movie is right up your alley. The kills are over the top vs Michael Myers. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
