Actress Paz de la Huerta made a reputation for herself as being boisterous, bombastic, and seemingly afraid of nothing. Growing up in New York City to a single mother, her upbringing wasn't easy, but it turned her into someone who was tough, overtly sexual, and often kinetic. She began modeling before she hit her teens and made her film debut when she was only 14 years old in the indie romantic comedy "The Object of My Affection" (1998). The next year, she played a bigger role in the John Irving adaptation "The Cider House Rules" (1999), alongside Michael Caine and Charlize Theron. Following some TV guest roles on shows such as "Law & Order" (NBC 1990-2010) and "The Practice" (ABC 1997-2004), de la Huerta moved into the world of indie cinema, with parts in "Bringing Rain" (2003), "Choke" (2008). Her starring role in Gaspar Noe's transgressive psychodrama "Enter the Void" (2009) and supporting turn in Jim Jarmusch's experimental "The Limits of Control" (2009), in which she played a character who was always nude or wearing see-through clothing, gave her a reputation as an actress who took on challenging and uncommercial roles but had few hang ups about her body. It was after she earned that reputation that she reached a larger stage, co-starring on the period gangster drama "Boardwalk Empire" (HBO 2010-14) as the girlfriend of Steve Buscemi's lead character Nucky Thompson. At the end of the second season, she was let go amidst rumors that the cast and crew found her difficult to work with. As her role in "Boardwalk Empire" came to an end, she starred in the horror movies "Nurse 3D" (2013) and "The Editor" (2014). After co-starring in erotic drama "Bare" (2015) and thriller "The Girl is in Trouble" (2015), de la Huerta appeared in the surrealist fantasy "Aimy In A Cage" (2015) and crime drama "Death in the Desert" (2015). In late 2017, after news broke about producer Harvey Weinstein's predatory behavior toward women, de la Huerta alleged in an interview with Vanity Fair that Weinstein had raped her twice in 2010; the New York District Attorney's Office began investigating the charges with criminal charges against Weinstein a possibility.
