      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

The Happytime Murders wastes its intriguingly transgressive premise on a witless comedy that blindly pushes buttons instead of attempting to tell an entertaining story.

Ted G A totally twisted but absolutely hilarious movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/22/21 Full Review mike c It's immature, crass, but had a great time watching it with friends. This isn't art, it's meant to be a big joke, and i think it succeeded. Was surprised to see so many negative reviews, I think it delivered on everything it promised. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/28/24 Full Review Pete It doesn't surprise me that the movie critics joke say they're basically wasted in time. And it's a waste of your time and in sense for watch this movie. How wrong wrong wrong? I think they are. The first time I watched this movie, I was home alone. Laughing out loud for at least half that movie. It was hilarious. 3 weeks later, I came home not in a good mood and I thought I'll put this movie back on. Maybe that I'll cheer me up 5 minutes later. I was cracking up at this movie and I felt great. Whatever was bugging me or bother me gone because, even watching it in a second and third time. I still laugh just as hard people that don't have a sense of humor yeah, don't watch it cause you won't get it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/04/24 Full Review Glen L This should be a cult classic. Its is completely underrated. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/24 Full Review The O A bit weird and wacky but enjoyable enough. The metaphor of opressed peoples and puppets is dumb but if you get past that it's got some jokes that land. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/18/23 Full Review Andy G Even though "the fuzz" came out 5 yrs earlier and had the same premise, "happytime murders" is hilariously awesome. The humor is most gutter humor but if that's what u like u won't be disappointed. Melissa McCarthy is hilarious, Joel McHale is great and Maya Rudolph is always a pleasure to watch. This movie made my stomach hurt I laughed so hard. They don't hold back on the tastelessness. Is that a word? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Ben Sachs Chicago Reader The film is basically a string of variations on the not-that-funny joke of cute puppets saying and doing naughty things. Mar 4, 2020 Full Review Scott Marks San Diego Reader The connoisseur of filth within me is pleased to report how wonderfully nasty much of the felted proceedings here are to behold. Rated: 2/5 Aug 31, 2018 Full Review Larushka Ivan-Zadeh Times (UK) With multiple scenes of drug-snorting and depraved puppet sex, including an admittedly hilariously drawn-out ejaculation scene...it's worth emphasising that this is definitely not one for the kiddies. Rated: 2/5 Aug 30, 2018 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The material's limitations are reached within the first half-hour. Rated: 1.5/4 Mar 11, 2022 Full Review Nicolás Delgadillo Discussing Film It leaves you with nothing to think about, and too many of the jokes fall short, with the genuinely funny ones being few and far between. Rated: 2. 5 / 5 Jun 25, 2021 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse You know when someone constantly swears just for the sake of swearing? That's shock value. The Happytime Murders is all shock, very little value. Rated: 1/5 Mar 4, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
