Scott Marks San Diego Reader The boys are terrific, particularly Butterfield, who makes something wonderful out of discovering a grilled cheese sandwich and a can of soda Rated: 2/5 Jul 6, 2018 Full Review Walter V. Addiego San Francisco Chronicle Part of what's missing in "The House of Tomorrow" is the acerbic punk spirit that inspires its two heroes, which could have been remedied by a sharper script. Rated: 2/4 May 23, 2018 Full Review Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle It's so amiably predictable that you end up wanting to throw some Motrhead at it, just to see what happens. Rated: 2/5 May 17, 2018 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review Fine but not especially inspired. Still, seeing this gifted group of actors together, making the most of a fairly pedestrian screenplay, is enjoyable enough. Jun 17, 2020 Full Review Christopher James AwardsCircuit.com The film has its heart in the right place. However, even at 85 minutes, it becomes a slog to get through the myriad of cliches. Rated: 1.5/4 Oct 30, 2018 Full Review Joe Friar The Victoria Advocate The film features a wonderful cast that delivers heartfelt performances. Butterfield and Wolff drive the film. Offerman is at his best as the humane parent, and Burstyn is suburb as the gentle but inflexible eccentric grandmother. Rated: 3/4 Oct 28, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Steve D I found it really bland and thought it wasted its cast. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/24 Full Review Audience Member It's the house of tomorrow but it shouldnt be the house of the rest of our lives Asa Butterfield, Ellen Burstyn, Nick Offerman, and Alex Wolfe Sebastian lives with his mother but closed off from the rest of the world They live in an energy efficient home using fewer resources Then one of the kids visiting in a youth group Jared introduces him to punk music Sebastian takes a liking to this as well as Jared's sister but his mother worries about him being too overexposed Jared also has a heart condition but chooses to not worry so much There's so many silent moments in this I was expecting a lot more colorful upbeat ones This felt massively underwhelming and felt like they wanted to get it over with as fast as possible This script needed some more spark and be sharper having a more punk-like spirit There's better outings than this one Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/21/23 Full Review Marissa T Powerful ideas about death, loneliness, and expressing feelings. Beautiful friendship between the two male leads. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Loved it. Great coming of age movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member There's a plot here commendable for a film but this is slightly lacking. There's friendship and purpose in here but it's through awkward naivety that reigns. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member While I didn't love the book, I was still intrigued enough to see it play out on the screen (casting Nick Offerman didn't hurt). Thought the same guy from Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns played Jared — turns out it's his brother, Alex Wolff. Solid acting saved this movie, especially Asa Butterfield in the lead, which made it a delightful watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
