Nick F George Montgomery had a long movie career from the 1930s until the 1970s, many of his roles in Westerns. The Lone Gun (1954) is a typical example, with Montgomery delivering another solid performance as a newly-appointed Marshal trying to rid a small town of a trio of murderous brothers. It’s a familiar storyline but co-star Dorothy Malone as the love interest and a smirking Neville Brand as the chief villain hold the attention, and director Ray Nazarro ensures plenty of gunplay, so Western fans will enjoy it. Montgomery was a fine actor and rather under-rated in the Western genre, probably because he just lacked the charisma of the likes of Western stars Audie Murphy and Randolph Scott. But his performance in The Lone Gun shows that on his day, he could be just as good.
