Meyer Levin (Patterson Murphy) Esquire Magazine He gets all the rulers of the world together and tells them to fix things up, and then H. G. Wells interferes. Nice performance by Roland Young. Apr 20, 2020 Full Review Alberto Abuín Espinof One of the most effective and scandalously entertaining proposals when it comes to making the public think. Pure Wells. Jul 22, 2019 Full Review MFB Critics Monthly Film Bulletin The acting is competent but the casting imperfect, and the dialogue too often stilted and given to harangues. Jessica C I actually really enjoyed this movie! It's fun and easy to follow. Makes me want to read the book as well! Also, I found my new girl crush: Jean Gardner. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/16/20 Full Review Audience Member An HG Well classic, which speaks to society today as much as it did a century ago. As with most quality movies, it may have a slow start but it methodically builds to a fantastic (& insightful) final half-hour. Technically excellent filmography and FX for 1937. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member good fantasy/sci-fi pic Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Not bad at all. Rather like a 1930s UK version of Bruce Almighty with a better plot and worse special effects, although they were still pretty amazing for 1936. Didn't overstay its welcome either. 6.75/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review kevin w Nice adaptation of H.G. Wells story about one of the ultimate dreams, as the recent spate of superhero epics underline: what if a soul had more, extra power than everyone else? Well, as Stan Lee has opined in SpiderMan, "with great power comes great responsibility" and so our comic everyman finds out here in this 1930's English production. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member A virtual who's who of early British cinema including Roland Young, George Sanders, Torin Thatcher & Ernst Thesinger. The plot is still very valid today even if the way of life is dated. The print I watched was very crackly, this movie needs the Critereon treatment. Dated but amusing Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
