Drew Hunt Chicago Reader The film is trite on the surface, but through some complex plotting, writer-director Jenée LaMarque slyly incorporates foreboding themes of guilt and delusion that push the farcical elements to the brink. Feb 28, 2014 Full Review Leonard Maltin leonardmaltin.com The premise of "The Pretty One" may be far-fetched, but it's carried out with sincerity and the results are amusing, ironic, and thoughtful. Here's a small-scale movie that offers a gleam of satisfaction. Feb 21, 2014 Full Review Carlos Aguilar Movie Mezzanine Outright ridiculous and utterly farfetched. Rated: C Feb 21, 2014 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com An enjoyable distraction that's thankfully not afraid to be a bit more adult about matters of sexual attraction. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 29, 2019 Full Review Morgan Rojas Cinemacy The Pretty One serves as director Jenée LaMarque's directorial debut, and while her style isn't revolutionary, it is a fun movie. Dec 4, 2018 Full Review Stephen Saito Moveable Fest One of those films with such a rich premise, you can't believe it hasn't been made before, yet you sure believe it could've only been made by LaMarque. Aida M I expected more out of it, too slow, dragging, predictable. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/17/24 Full Review Audience Member Despite what others have rated I thought this was a Great feel good Movie. I Would classify this film to be a Dark Comedy. I found Zoe Kazan and Jake Johnsons relationship to be comical, Adorable and the highlight of the movie. I will definitely watch again in the future. It is sad but uplifting at the same time. The beginning scene is a bit awkward but shows just how lost she really is. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member So underrated. Smart story well told. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful quirky movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
