Leslie Felperin Guardian The moral maths seem calculated in advance to ensure a by-numbers outcome, but it’s an absorbing puzzle while it lasts. Rated: 3/5 Nov 25, 2024 Full Review Courtney Howard Variety Not only does it lack a satisfying payoff when it comes to its set-up of intriguing, character-driven action sequences, the narrative’s emotional pull also yields diminishing returns. Oct 11, 2024 Full Review Matt Glasby Radio Times Although some later plot developments, and Lynch's dim-wittedness, stretch credulity, the movie offers an intriguing new route through familiar terrain. Rated: 3/5 Nov 13, 2024 Full Review Javier Ocaña Cinemanía (Spain) [Brad Anderson] somewhat sustains the plot with certain creativity in the editing and auditory perceptions of the two protagonists. Papi Chulo Its an ok “B” film. Probably shouldve went straight to on demand. I love the fact that they gave an opportunity to an actress whos actually deaf in real life, but considering most theater attendees dont understand sign language, i wish they had translated more of her dialouge. Also, the “mole” reveal didnt feel like a surprise, since that actor is usually typecast as a villain in most of his films Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Peter G Some of the reviews which were made by professionals have treated this as the film they wish had been made. The female actor Sandra Mae Frank IS deaf and the film is a useful demonstration of how such actors can be integrated into a film. It's a thriller, made more so by the main characters' deafness. The main actions are hide and seek in an empty building, where the goodies use a variety of "tricks" to evade the "baddies" (dealing drugs). The tensions are well-maintained and Mark Strong plays against type. Try also to imagine how the director would have interacted with Ms Frank, in making the film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/30/24 Full Review Ralph R The Silent Hour, directed by Brad Anderson, is a crime thriller that offers solid performances and a tense atmosphere. Joel Kinnaman stands out with a strong portrayal of his character, bringing depth and authenticity to his role. Sandra Mae Frank also delivers a compelling performance, and the chemistry between the two leads enhances the film’s emotional impact. The movie is well-paced, with a steady sense of tension that keeps you engaged throughout. While it doesn’t break new ground in the genre, it’s a watchable and enjoyable experience with moments of genuine suspense. If you’re a fan of crime thrillers, The Silent Hour is worth a look. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/24/24 Full Review Les N Entertaining! Better than the other shite that Rotten Tomatoes has been recommending. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/13/24 Full Review A Z “The Silent Hour” was actually crazy good! Joel Kinnaman plays Frank, this Boston cop who just lost his hearing, and now he’s stuck on a case that’s basically a death wish. He has to protect Ava (Sandra Mae Frank), who saw a gang murder and is now a target. But here’s the twist: both of them have their own struggles, and it’s not just your usual “cop saves witness” story. Dan Hall, who wrote the script, makes the plot feel real and intense without all the typical action-movie cliches. There’s this constant tension because it’s not loud and explosive, but quiet and nerve-wracking. Brad Anderson’s direction uses silence and sound in a way that makes you feel every close call. Frank and Ava don’t feel like typical characters; they’re more like real people thrown into this insane situation. You’re on edge the whole time, and every twist actually keeps you guessing. It’s not just another action movie – it’s something different. I totally loved the fresh perspective. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Chris J A great plot, tension throughout and a really nice character development of the characters has you rooting for them throughout. The underlying aspect of people not letting their disabilities disadvantage them, is really nicely interwoven to the action move plot, and the acting, especially Joel K and Mark S, are really solid. Would see again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Read all reviews
