Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends are being threatened by diesel engines like the surly Diesel 10 and his sidekicks Splatter and Dodge. Even the magical Mr. Conductor, who has always traveled between the train world and the human world of Shining Time Station, is losing his powers and sparkle. In the middle of this crisis, Lily meets up with Mr. Conductor on the way to visit her lonely grandfather Burnett Stone. Brave Thomas reminds them all that "even little engines can do big things."

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Kids these days demand cutting edge special effects or at least a clever plot with cute charectors. This movie has neither, having lost in its Americanization what the British original did so right.

Nell Minow Common Sense Media Will please its many fans, but plot might confuse kids. Rated: 3/5 Dec 29, 2010 Full Review Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader Scenes with Peter Fonda as a melancholy grandfather -- he couldn't get a cherished engine running in time for his late wife to ride it -- periodically bring the movie screeching to a halt. May 19, 2008 Full Review Empire Magazine With clunky bluescreen, spot-a-mile-off matte work and an absolute lack of synergy between real-life and animated action, it all conspires to provide an appropriately amateur sheen. Rated: 1/5 Dec 30, 2006 Full Review Kaleem Aftab The List For those under-tens, Thomas and the Magic Railroad will be a great way to spend a school holiday afternoon. Тимофей Ш My favourite film, but not watching!!!! Let's go to watch!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/16/25 Full Review Arthur F While i would understand why people don’t like it, i think personally that it’s a fun movie, with a semi-interesting plot, the mix of models and live action, and a lot of memorable moments have come from this movie. I would love to see another TTTE movie like this in the future. I recommend for ages 11 and below, i think they will have fun watching it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/05/25 Full Review Audience Member It's a good children's movie, which is the intended audience, I feel too many people treat this movie as seriously as a national emergency, every child I've seen watch this has absolutely loved it, ergo five stars Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/10/25 Full Review Julian V I Don't hate this movie even thought it is not great like they deleted the scene where the villain who was on top on diesel ten was removed but they forgot to remove him when they enter the tunnel this movie should have been better Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/02/25 Full Review Nelson M 🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/06/25 Full Review Matthew D Just because it's a Kids movie does not mean it's a good movie 😡.
