What to Know

Critics Consensus

This post-Watergate thriller captures the paranoid tenor of the times, thanks to Syndey Pollack's taut direction and excellent performances from Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway.

Pauline Kael The New Yorker Sydney Pollack doesn't have a knack for action pulp. Oct 11, 2023 Full Review Kevin Maher The Times (UK) This peerless Sydney Pollack thriller hasn't just aged well, it's become positively prophetic, or at least eerily resonant. Rated: 5/5 May 8, 2021 Full Review Jay Cocks TIME Magazine A piece of dotty, slightly paranoid intrigue. Three Days of the Condor promises little and keeps its word. It is hard to get indignant about it, or enthusiastic either. Aug 9, 2016 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Three Days of the Condor is a 1970s post-Watergate political thriller that more or less captured the paranoia at the time. Rated: 4.5/5 May 21, 2024 Full Review Yasser Medina Cinefilia A political thriller that, with pulse and tension, evokes in each scene the sense of paranoia that leaves the trail of a bureaucratic conspiracy, where one never knows what can happen around the corner. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 7/10 Jan 16, 2024 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy One of a handful of superb “paranoia thrillers” released during the post-Watergate 1970s, ranking alongside the high-powered likes of The Parallax View, The Conversation, and All the President’s Men. Ryan U Not particularly stunning as a film Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/22/25 Full Review Larry P This is the film that made me realize I was a Robert Redford fan, really without realizing it. I just like this guy's pictures, and apparently Sydney Pollack's too. The duo teamed up in a number of projects, and this is as good as any of them. It doesn't hurt to have the beautiful and talented Faye Dunaway portraying Joe Turner's random love interest turned accomplice. The only drag on it is the conspiracy theory of the day, the planet is certain to run out of food or oil or whatever Hollywood deems is the cause of the day, which excuses the murder of an entire CIA cell. It's fascinating for its time, wildly dated with dial-up phones so one has to allow for the fact it's a period piece, but it's still a terrific thriller. Max Von Sydow's layered, patient villain, and surprise ending turn will leave you thinking after the conclusion. If you're a spy thriller fan, this is a treat for its time. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/14/25 Full Review Stephen C Success in 1 hour and 57 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/25 Full Review STEPHEN P Much more of a plot line and realistic action than todays way overdone special affects and ultra violence/action shows. Redford is great and shows much more realistic emotions under stress - like fear of dying and being on the verge of panic while trying to think and act under pressure Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/01/25 Full Review Michael R They don't make good movies like this anymore. Redord, Von Sydow and Dunaway are fantastic. Loved seeing 1970s Manhattan and Brooklyn. The story is very good but not great or else I would've bumped it up a half star. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/24/24 Full Review Audience Member I've watched this twice over the years and would watch it again. Redford is good in his panic.
