Alex Kirshner Slate American Sports Story inspires empathy for Hernandez without offering sympathy, and it does that by showing his world as it was. Oct 31, 2024 Full Review Matthew Creith TheWrap Rivera takes a vulnerable character like Aaron Hernandez and makes it possible to not only feel for the real-life figure but also believe in his self-doubt and emotional instability. Sep 26, 2024 Full Review Max Covill RogerEbert.com Even though “American Sports Story” has compelling drama to tap into, it never exceeds the level of a Lifetime series. Christian K This series is absolutely phenomenal. A special shoutout to the entire cast, whose performances are nothing short of captivating and flawlessly directed. The lead actor is a standout—he truly deserves an Emmy. His portrayal is a masterclass, blending humor, charm, awkwardness, frustration, and an irresistible vulnerability. The direction and storytelling are equally stunning, weaving the narrative in a way that’s both gripping and heartfelt. If I had to nitpick, I’d say the story could have been told in 8 episodes instead. Still, this is undoubtedly one of the best series I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/23/24 Full Review Tanisha R Josh Rivera is excellent! This mini series is an excellent must watch. I can't wait to buy the full series when it becomes available. This is one of the best of the year, it has some of everything in it. Football fans, true crime fans, this is a must see. My only issue is that the last episode seemed like it was rushed for time. Maybe I wasn't ready for it to end. Either way I will be watching this one again. Bravo! to all involved. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/14/24 Full Review Audience Member This show was entertaining and humanized Hernandez to where I felt sympathy for him. The series had a great line which was everyone used him and threw him away when they were done. Not word for word but it stuck with me. They didn’t care about him just what he could bring and if he really got the help and time to heal maybe things would be different. It was gripping and interesting while it could’ve used more time and better writers maybe I think I would’ve been just as big as The Mendez brothers. I still loved it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/14/24 Full Review Michael W This miniseries was really good. Josh Andres Rivera, Jaylen Barron, Ean Castellanos, Lindsay Mendez, Tammy Blanchard, Norbert Leo Butz, and the rest of the cast did an excellent job in this miniseries. This true story about the rise and fall of NFL tight end Aaron Hernandez was dramatic, intense, and shocking. If you haven't seen this miniseries yet, check it out sometime. It's a must see. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/13/24 Full Review Brooke W Ryan Murphy's retellings are starting to feel like Lifetime productions with American Sports Story. The Aaron Hernandez case is complex, tragic, horrific. This series is vapid and soulless. I was so hoping for the same level of storytelling as we saw with Impeachment or the Versace case. Quantity over quality seems to be the way. So disappointing. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/08/24 Full Review p b Great show. I'm from NE and lived through this sad tale, watched the documentaries and this show is well done. Not over the top but seems realistic. Josh Andre's is amazing as Aaron Hernandez.
