Aramide Tinubu Variety Despite its unique setting, “Bet” is repetitive and grows increasingly wearisome, offering nothing new to the “Kakegurui” fandom. May 15, 2025 Full Review Chris Joyce Movies and Munchies (YouTube) As someone who’s not hugely into anime or manga, I found myself hooked on the show despite the colossal plot conveniences and the absurd situations the students created. Rated: 3.5/5 May 30, 2025 Full Review Danae Stahlnecker Common Sense Media This teen psychological thriller could say some interesting things about class, wealth, and power, but it doesn't quite get there. May 27, 2025 Full Review Joel Keller Decider There’s nothing wrong with being a stylish show, but Bet‘s concentration on style overwhelms any kind of substance, making the show a chore to watch over a 10-episode season. May 15, 2025 Full Review Jonathon Wilson Ready Steady Cut It’s a show that takes some fairly big swings and not all of it works, but I mostly loved it and I suspect most people who aren’t worried about the accuracy of the costumes will too. Audience Member I really enjoyed it, as someone who has never even seen the original and has nothing to base it on(which I shouldn’t) it’s really really good. I feel like most people are forgetting especially those in the Kakegurui fandom, who even seem to be expecting, it that it’s not a remake. It is a show based on the premise. So you shouldn’t look at it to see an exact replica because that is not what it is trying to be. I say give it a chance because I loved it and watched it in the span of two days because it really hooked me. I really hope we get a second season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/25 Full Review Programming P One of the worst tv series I have ever seen in my life. The chemistry between the character is totally off. We have no idea why or how the character decide to do what they do maybe they no that's there a mighty entity named director told them to do that. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/02/25 Full Review Audience Member As someone who doesn't watch anime, I thought it was awesome. Really hope we get a season two Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/01/25 Full Review Jada L it's does not follow the original story but it has an amazing plot it is a must see Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/30/25 Full Review Audience Member First, I'd like to apologize in advance for any mistakes in my English, as it's not my first language. As someone deeply immersed in the Kakegurui universe, from the manga to the anime and even the Japanese live-action. I approached BET with an open mind, knowing that adaptations are not direct copies but reinterpretations. This Canadian production preserved the characters and the core premise but reshaped the entire narrative. The result? A unique experience that is bound to divide opinions. The cast delivers visceral performances, often exaggerated, something that aligns with Kakegurui's signature style, where theatrical absurdity is part of the essence. While some may find certain portrayals "cringe" if expecting complete faithfulness to the original, within the framework of this adaptation, the heightened emotions work well to convey the tension and psychological stakes of the games. Unlike the Japanese live-action, BET opts for a visual style that balances luxury with psychological breakdowns. The dynamic editing, the use of subjective camera angles, and a carefully curated lighting scheme all intensify the instability, pulling the audience into the characters' mental whirlwind. If the goal was to explore the psychology behind risk and gambling, the visual direction achieves it masterfully. The costumes offer a reinterpretation of the iconic outfits, making them more adaptable for a Western audience without completely abandoning the extravagance that defines the original work. While some fans might struggle with the changes, they help contextualize this version within its own universe. Not everything lands perfectly. The gamble involving Suki, for instance, felt empty, lacking the impact it needed, and could have been developed better to heighten the tension. Additionally, Ryan's characterization was frustrating. In Kakegurui, Ryota may have disagreed with Yumeko but ultimately supported her. In BET, however, Ryan continuously holds Yumeko back, preventing her from taking risks, which goes against her very essence as a character driven by emotion and thrill-seeking. It's crucial to remember that an adaptation is not a direct translation. BET took Kakegurui's foundation, the characters, the obsession with gambling, the psychological battles, and transposed it into a new reality with a different approach. Those expecting an identical recreation of the original material might feel disappointed. But for those who understand the intention and allow themselves to embrace this new vision, there is plenty to appreciate. In the end, I truly enjoyed what the director aimed to convey. Instead of merely copying Kakegurui, they sought to reinterpret it through a fresh lens. And successful adaptations are those bold enough to reinvent themselves. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/30/25 Full Review Laura L Une très bonne série ,pour toutes les personnes qu'il n'arrête pas de parlé du mange,c'est une inspirations pas une adaptations en live actions, aussi sinon une très bonne série hâte de savoir s'il y vas avoir une saison 2 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/29/25 Full Review Read all reviews
