"Endeavour" follows the newly forged relationship -- both working and personal -- between young DC Endeavour Morse and his senior partner, DI Fred Thursday. Returning actors include Shaun Evans as Endeavour and Roger Allam as Thursday, while Sean Rigby takes on the role of a young PC Strange -- the character who appeared in the original "Morse" series, played by James Grout. Abigail Thaw, the daughter of the first Inspector Morse, John Thaw, makes further guest appearances as Dorothea Frazil.

In its quiet, unassuming way, Endeavour rises out of the ruck of police procedurals to achieve truly Shakespearean gravitas, illuminating a world that has become too blurred and confusing for many. Go to Full Review

The performances and characterisation are Endeavour's strongest points. The plotting is its weakest. Go to Full Review

This is still glorious, if gently dour. Go to Full Review

Questions of power, agency, and spiteful revenge call forward to crimes that are, sadly, still very current. It's an intriguing mix that kicks off this all-too-brief seventh series in style. Go to Full Review

What a combination, Morse and women's lib. They go together like smoked fish and custard, or Italy and cricket. Go to Full Review

Edward L @Glyndower Dec 23 This series is generally worth a five star review but this season is appalling. The ludicrous plot spread over all three episodes is based on the two most repetitiously irritating aspects of the otherwise excellent two series: Morse's inability to engage in a normal relationship and the overly loud classical music of the soundtrack, especially the operatic warblings of sopranos. A laughable excuse for the cast and crew to enjoy a working holiday in Venice! See more 07/04/2022 For the most part I have loved this series, especially the relationship of Morse and Thursday. But so often the voices are so low that I fail to pick up the dialogue--sometimes for up to five minutes at a time (and my hearing is perfect). At other times the plot becomes just a bit too involved. See more 07/04/2022 This whole series has been incredibly well put together with strong scripts, excellent and believable characters and with a realistic depiction of 1960's Britain. Season 9 will be the last and our viewing landscape will be the poorer for that with the only downside being that each season, in typical British fashion, is too short with only 33 episodes across 8 series. See more 06/17/2021 Interesting developments but it is difficullt to see how it could go beyond much longer .... the misteries are well developed and of course there are infinte depravities among humans to inflict pain on each other that could be covered. Unfortunately, although I still enjoy it, it's becoming repetitive by using the same formula over and over again. One minor observation but using he Oxford campus as a background is getting boring... See more 02/27/2021 Nice show. The acting is very good and the scripts are fine. The show becomes annoying, however, with the side story of Morse and his "secret lover." Better to leave these "irresistible man" meets frustrated, confused woman out of future seasons. It ruins the storyline and diminishes a fine show. See more 09/13/2020 As usual, intriguing plots that keep you glued from start to finish. Very disappointed that Season 7 was only three episodes. See more Read all reviews
