Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News A number of red herrings get tossed in, but “Long Bright River” is at its best when addressing how those in power prey all too often on those who are most disadvantaged. Rated: 3/4 Mar 27, 2025 Full Review John Powers NPR Propelled by its heroine's search for a killer, Long Bright River isn't just a mystery but a heartfelt story about wounded communities, wounded families and the wounded individuals who try to make things better. Mar 20, 2025 Full Review Gavia Baker-Whitelaw Boston Globe Long Bright River is aimed at viewers who enjoy the more hard-hitting side of crime fiction. Despite its reliance on certain tried-and-tested archetypes, it stands out due to its direct engagement with the topic of addiction. Mar 13, 2025 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba The whole experience is like watching a turtle crawl across a gravel road when all you want to do is pick it up and carry it to the other side. Jun 26, 2025 Full Review James Croot The Post NZ If you’ve been looking for 2025’s answer to Mare of Easttown, you’ll find it right here. Jun 24, 2025 Full Review Eilis O'Hanlon Irish Independent Long Bright River has an undeniable grim style of its own nonetheless, and Seyfried is a quiet revelation, wholly believable in this uncharacteristic role. Amy K While this may feel like a slow burn detective series, it is one of my absolute favorites in the 2020's. Amanda Seyfried plays a complex, brilliant detective, who is more complex than her male colleagues give her credit for. The writing, directing, and acting were brilliant. What makes this series truly unique is the way that it treats violence against women with delicacy and respect. There are no gratuitous scenes of violence, and instead, it weaves a complex mystery, while elevating the issue of how many women are forgotten, trafficked, and abused on the streets of America, and it happens in front of our eyes. Kudos to Amanda Seyfried and I hope there's a second season. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/05/25 Full Review Gareth v There is a decent enough story here, but it's a shame the direction of this show takes us down the Hallmark/soap-opera path in it's final few episides. Amanda Seyfriennd is a fine actress, but the casting of her as Mickey just doesn't work here. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/14/25 Full Review Geoff R I will never try to watch a TV series on Peacock again. The constant commercials destroy any sense of the drama. Dreadful. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/09/25 Full Review Kat D Part police drama, part daytime soap opera, part Hallmark movie. The dialogue leans towards the latter two. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/07/25 Full Review Avindu G For Kaceys and Mickeys there's a world shared by Simons and Trumans to conquer. And that story of many heartbreaks and hardwon victories was brought to life by some truly amazing performances by the cast. This may not be what's advertised and an exact transition from the book but it's a product of brilliant minds. Decay and chaos of living cemeteries was captured very well through excellent cinematography and great visuals. Audio effects were in sync with the viewer's thoughts intended to be brought out. It's a touching tale in a time where collateral damage is oversimplified, making this Long Bright River therapeutic. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/01/25 Full Review Mathison K Slow burn. Dark. Seems like the police officer neglects her son too much to pursue her investigations. I stopped watching when she started sucking face with her partner. Not interested enough in any twists or the ending. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/29/25 Full Review Read all reviews
