Carried along by Amanda Seyfried's steely turn as a closed-off cop, Long Bright River takes a winding path with some unnecessary detours but ultimately arrives at a compelling destination.

A number of red herrings get tossed in, but “Long Bright River” is at its best when addressing how those in power prey all too often on those who are most disadvantaged. Go to Full Review

Propelled by its heroine's search for a killer, Long Bright River isn't just a mystery but a heartfelt story about wounded communities, wounded families and the wounded individuals who try to make things better. Go to Full Review

Long Bright River is aimed at viewers who enjoy the more hard-hitting side of crime fiction. Despite its reliance on certain tried-and-tested archetypes, it stands out due to its direct engagement with the topic of addiction. Go to Full Review

Long Bright River has an undeniable grim style of its own nonetheless, and Seyfried is a quiet revelation, wholly believable in this uncharacteristic role. Go to Full Review

Yash B @yashbansal 9h "Long Bright River" starts out with a truly engaging mystery with lots of intrigue. I also think the show highlights some important topics, and I admired it for that. Amanda Seyfried is terrific in the lead role, and her performance is easily the biggest highlight of the show. I do think 8 episodes does make this series run a little long, and often it does feel like it is spinning its wheels. I can see how it may be better as a book, as it is based on one. I still think it is a decent one-time watch, but I also think there are better miniseries out there with a similar vibe and higher-quality storylines. Overall, the show is just okay, but Seyfried does a commendable job in the lead role. See more Sabontu A @sabontu Dec 24 The acting was amazing, and I appreciated how the show shined a light on drug addiction, and people living on the streets. However, I wish it had focused more on the investigation; at times, it felt like there were too many storylines happening at once. the series would have been stronger if it had centered more on Mickeys relationship with her sister and the actual investigation. The romance felt unnecessary, and the double date she had with the medical examiner and her husband didn’t add much to the storyline. It is worth watching all the way through though. Still, it is worth watching all the way through. See more M D P Dec 20 This police prestige-oral is beyond boring, the lead police officer is so irritating it's unreal but more offensive is how this story feels like it's set 50yrs ago, do you realistically expect me to believe that a female police officer is that strange in a large American city? If this drama focused on the murders instead of PC borings family life it might be passable.... it isn't See more S R Dec 9 The overall story is interesting. But there are too many less interesting Sloooooow diversions and the season is 3-4 episodes too long. Very strong acting but most episodes are a slog to get through. And the lead makes some very frustrating bad decisions. Would not have put in the time if I could do it over again. See more Diane L Nov 11 This was a great series with great actors! I binged watched the entire series in one long afternoon. It is definitely worth watching See more S T Oct 3 The weird afro hairstyles make the series somewhat fake. In realife I cannot see a medical examiner with this kind of hair. See more Read all reviews
