Carried along by Amanda Seyfried's steely turn as a closed-off cop, Long Bright River takes a winding path with some unnecessary detours but ultimately arrives at a compelling destination.

Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News A number of red herrings get tossed in, but “Long Bright River” is at its best when addressing how those in power prey all too often on those who are most disadvantaged. Rated: 3/4 Mar 27, 2025 Full Review John Powers NPR Propelled by its heroine's search for a killer, Long Bright River isn't just a mystery but a heartfelt story about wounded communities, wounded families and the wounded individuals who try to make things better. Mar 20, 2025 Full Review Gavia Baker-Whitelaw Boston Globe Long Bright River is aimed at viewers who enjoy the more hard-hitting side of crime fiction. Despite its reliance on certain tried-and-tested archetypes, it stands out due to its direct engagement with the topic of addiction. Mar 13, 2025 Full Review Emma Stefansky The Daily Beast Long Bright River is not breaking any new ground when it comes to the inner-city cop drama following a rule-breaking officer with a complicated past, but the deliberate pacing out of its big reveals promises new shockers around every corner. Mar 19, 2025 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Between Seyfried’s performance and the bread crumbs we get about Mickey’s past in the first episode, there’s enough to keep us watching Long Bright River. Mar 17, 2025 Full Review Matt Roush TV Insider Peacock’s Long Bright River, adapting Liz Moore’s terrifically gritty novel, boasts one of the most intriguingly imperfect heroines since HBO’s memorable Mare of Easttown in Mickey Fitzpatrick. Bob S If you enjoy police dramas where the cops make ten serious mistakes per minute, then this one is for you. All kinds of interpersonal boundaries being crossed. In normal situations, these cops would have been fired forty times over. Okay, it was interesting enough for us to watch all the way through. There was one saving grace: the ending, because it wasn't exactly a Hollywood ending. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/06/25 Full Review Ivan F Lost me at episode 5. Way too sappy, way too sugary to be legit. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/07/25 Full Review Pat B Long Bright River sets out to be a gritty crime drama but gets bogged down in an overwhelming amount of family dysfunction and personal baggage. The tone is relentlessly bleak, to the point of being emotionally exhausting rather than compelling. Nearly every white male character is portrayed as a deadbeat, drug dealer, or alcoholic, which starts to feel one-note and heavy-handed. The main character, a police officer, is meant to be tough and determined, but often comes across as slow to pick up obvious clues and frustratingly passive in key moments. Instead of delivering a tight mystery or gripping procedural, the show leans too hard into soap-opera-style family drama, leaving little room for meaningful suspense or satisfying resolution. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/05/25 Full Review Marie G Enjoyed the series. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/27/25 Full Review Per S Among the myriade of modern crime drama series it's hard to stand out. However, Long Bright River does. It's different and perhaps it's a bit too slow at times, but still it's well written, well directed, and well acted, with Amanda Seyfried as police officer Mickey Fitzpatrick and Callum Vinson as her son Thomas, both performing brilliantly. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/23/25 Full Review Patrick M Holy crap, for 7 episodes, I was intrigued with my only criticism being, this is a bit overly long. But ultimately, I was curious to see how it ended. Man, I’ve heard of not sticking the landing, but this show completely face planted the ending. Brutal. I like Amanda Seyfried and she was largely the best part of this show, but don’t waste your time Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/19/25 Full Review Read all reviews
