See more Aye E May 22 I'm on the fence about this season. It felt like it was made by a different team. There was the quality production from the first season and the characters we love, and great performances. It's inevitable at the conclusion of S1 that there be some darkness. But the tone is so shifted it might as well be another show. I had high hopes of the quality of S1 being continued, but it seems the ship veered off course, too influenced by fan theories, and it overall felt like it was pandering to fans and not staying true to a solid vision, not even from season to season but from episode to episode. The cut budget just neutered any well-paced story telling, just a marathon of cramming ideas in. The music choices and how it was used compared to S1 was inconsistent and not as well crafted. Character story lines from S1 were just dropped. They traumatized a character and treated it like a comic punchline, which made it hard to watch this beloved character in S2. The anachronistic elements which felt slightly more balanced with the history that inspired the show in S1 have all but taken over and sent this careening into a hot mess. This motley crew of pirates continue with their silliness on the high seas, that despite a few flat spots has enough laughs to keep you coming back. Truly magnificent in every detail, inspired writing and characters who have depth and complexity, pathos and humour, all capable of both great love and horrible deeds. Brilliant acting, gorgeous sets and costumes, grisly historical details and a great soundtrack. Surely the greatest pirate love story ever told!
