What to Know

Critics Consensus

Even with bold swings and romance off the table, the rambunctious rapport between Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen makes Platonic an ideal relationship comedy.

Rachel Syme The New Yorker The show really belongs to Byrne, who is at her best when she plays a woman severely in need of a good time. Jun 2, 2023 Full Review Linda Holmes NPR While it certainly has emotional ideas that it's playing with, Platonic is mostly happy to be its truest self: a broadly goofy comedy in which a lot of really game actors have a lot of fun. May 28, 2023 Full Review Ty Burr Ty Burr's Watch List (Substack) The laughs are there and the two stars play extremely well together, liked a mixed-gender Lucy and Ethel. Recommended. Rated: 3/4 May 27, 2023 Full Review Samantha Schuster Cinéfilo Serial It's not a revolutionary series that will go down in history, but it does manage to make us have a pleasant, relaxed, and fun time based on a dynamic duo that works, as do most of its jokes and reflections on adult life. [Full Review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Jul 25, 2025 Full Review Karl Puschmann New Zealand Herald Byrne and Rogen have fantastic chemistry together, lending the entire premise believability. Feb 12, 2025 Full Review Dónal Lynch Sunday Independent (Ireland) Opposite-sex friendships in drama always seem poised to become something romantic, but this story of two people sticks to the guns of the title as it looks at the notion that we really don’t change as we get older. Calle S This is my first review here. I absolute loved platonic. It’s the best feel-good show I have watched in ages… Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/09/25 Full Review John D. Funny. Season 1 is better than season 2 though. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/09/25 Full Review Natasha R I was happy with this show overall. There were a few moments where the relationships were toxic (both romantic and platonic) and things were just swept over, but I guess that's what you get with a comedy-based show. Sweet ending, it seemed like it was intended to be a single season show. That being said, I'm excited to see what they do with season 2. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/30/25 Full Review John F Degenerate garbage, putrid display of moral depravity. Wretched Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/20/25 Full Review susan T. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen! It’s hysterical. The chemistry between these two characters is the best. Great tv. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/16/25 Full Review Mike M Rose Byrne is so funny.
