What to Know

Critics Consensus

Slow Horses loosens the reins in a more lighthearted season that doesn't quite measure up to the series' high bar, but it still excels as one of the most compulsively watchable offerings on television.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) ...[This season] doesn’t miss a beat, combining twisty momentum and sardonic humour as a terror crisis builds during a London mayoral election. That’s a terrific achievement, but also a finale of sorts. Rated: 4.5/5 Sep 25, 2025 Full Review Ben Dowell The Times (UK) It is glorious fun, a taut, twisty and enjoyable thriller laced with so many funny moments. Rated: 4/5 Sep 24, 2025 Full Review Maddy Mussen London Evening Standard It is undeniably watchable. But this season points a lot of fingers without actually making any clear decisions. Rated: 3/5 Sep 24, 2025 Full Review Pallavi Keswani The Hindu The latest season comes through as more of a comfort offering. It meets the expectations it has set up as a compact prestige dramedy, but does little more to surpass them. Nov 10, 2025 Full Review Pedro Gallego Espinof Oldman remains a guiding light, shaping the tone and spirit of the series, commanding with an authority that never takes itself too seriously, which is quite welcome. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4/5 Oct 31, 2025 Full Review Tim Stevens The Spool To draw the distinction between Slow Horses Season 1-4 and Slow Horses Season 5 is a bit like ranking the 92-93 Chicago Bulls the worst team of their dynasty era(s). It may be true, but it still feels a bit petty. Oct 21, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Rudy C Still one of the best series on any streaming platform, but the shortened season (only six episodes) feels like it left a lot of plot and character development on the cutting room floor. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/25/25 Full Review Avindu G Premise has the surprising element that rips through a quite morning light. This gives weight to the slough house's work round the clock. There's pieces to be picked up from the previous season but the story catches up well. Great work by the cast. And the Lamb's annoying annoyance would be heartbreakingly justified. Great audio and video effects. There were few awkward moments unlike never before that break character traits such as River's. And it's a shame how the story points at usual villains while MI5 watches a terrorist flee on foot. However sixth season seems grander and a room to improve. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/24/25 Full Review ultra b Better than season 4. Lamb lovely character is back Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/19/25 Full Review Kashgar A Couple of issues with this season but they’re all resolved by the end. Six episodes was just the right number. Love the final shot of Lamb’s foot. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/12/25 Full Review Susan S. Season 5 doesn’t disappoint. Five stars aren’t enough. Going to read the book series until Season 6 arrives. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/12/25 Full Review Marcia P I was disappointed in Season 5. All previous seasons a 5, brilliant, hilarious, moving and great characters, plots, performance! True surprises. But this latest one: Jackson Lamb is almost missing, fewer and fewer appearances and even then it's as if he's sick and tired of them, it, all. As if he's bowing out or slipping away as a character, or actor. The plot, the writing, frankly, was boring and I just didn't believe it - those five, six, Libyan kids, seemed amateurish, disorganized, careless, and escape repeatedly from the wizards of Slough House: it all depends on a few chance observations, out of lack of anything else to do, from Shirley, etc. And the boy star, he's become a bumbling idiot, dumby. I like that Shirley, especially Katherine, and Co are given more development. And MI6 really boring and lame, repetitive stuff; the First Desk is absolutely unbelievable and doesn't contribute any interest. All that time with Second Desk and Lyfe (?) and what's-his-name (clueless tracking/hacking wizard), is super tedious, and HE's the smart one!? Just poor writing, sloppy and dull.
