What to Know

Critics Consensus

Slick as a well-pressed suit and given watchable wattage by its cast, Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen doesn't seamlessly expand upon the original movie but has enough verve to be fun on its own terms.

Camilla Long The Times (UK) It is difficult to think of another director who’s evolved less than Ritchie. Honestly, how does he do it? Mar 11, 2024 Full Review Hugo Rifkind The Times (UK) Ritchie is mockable for the same reason that he is imitable, which is that he birthed a genre. The trouble with The Gentlemen, though, is that it feels less like it’s been made by an imitator than it has been by a bot. Mar 11, 2024 Full Review Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) The eight-episode format does not suit Ritchie. The pacing lags behind the manic kineticism of his features while it gives him even more space to indulge in his unnecessarily complicated plots. Mar 10, 2024 Full Review Jan Lee The Straits Times (Singapore) The humour does not tamper the bombastic action sequences. They are stylish and thrilling, even when there are absurd elements to it. Rated: 3/5 Aug 14, 2025 Full Review Martin Carr martincarr.co.uk Never short of backbone or gumption by the shovel load, The Gentlemen rolls up in its Land Rover and off loads an opening season guaranteed to blow your hair back. Oct 2, 2024 Full Review Clotilde Chinnici Loud and Clear Reviews The Gentlemen is a fascinating product thanks to its premise and setting but it could have wrapped up its plot a lot more nicely than with a disappointing last episode that attempts to tie all loose ends and connect all the threads and characters. Maksim S Downton Abbey Meets Lock, Stock in the Most Delightful Way. Ok, so its not like Guy Richie has swayed beyond his usual genre, and the formula is definitely there. Nevertheless, The Gentlemen series is a brilliantly twisted cocktail of class, crime, and dark comedy — imagine if Downton Abbey and Lock, Stock had a dangerously funny love child. The show is both sharp and stylish, yet unafraid to dive into the grimy underbelly of British criminal enterprise. Nothing is off-limits: aristocrats sniffing cocaine at dinner, impeccably dressed gangsters plotting mayhem, and rough-around-the-edges Liverpool barons navigating a world of money, menace, and manners. The writing is razor-sharp, balancing wit, tension, and absurdity with effortless precision. Every character feels alive, every scheme pulses with danger, and the blend of sophistication and savagery keeps viewers constantly engaged. From the very first episode, you’ll be hooked — seduced by the style, entertained by the chaos, and laughing at how outrageously clever it all is. It’s classy, it’s grim, it’s hilarious — a modern gangster saga that proves nothing in crime drama has to be boring. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/02/25 Full Review Denise T It’s slick, for sure. Nicely shot. It’s clever and harsh but ultimately mush inside. No real meat. It’s like barbed wire pablum. Halfway through the second episode, I thought to myself did guy ritchie grow up rich? Because he seems to fetishize those from poor classes. It feels like phony, cockney, stooge material. I don’t know. Something about Guy Ritchie movies— they feel like they were made by a spoiled frat boy who never grew up. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/19/25 Full Review Francis S Michael Vu as Jimmy is a gem. It's a good show, will directed, well made Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/16/25 Full Review Rodney V Love it . Just like the movie. Crazy and great writing Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/11/25 Full Review Jonathan W. So good. The score the environment, everything. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/30/25 Full Review Greta S guy's name there and the movie sound really tempting but its a disappointing series for a fan Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/04/25 Full Review Read all reviews
