What to Know

Critics Consensus

Relocating The Office Down Under doesn't completely sidestep the pitfalls of feeling like a photocopy of a photocopy, but a likable cast keeps this new workplace highly watchable.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) My take on the Australian variant? Relax, it’s fine... Any attempt to make a local edition is fraught with risk. But Julie De Fina and Jackie van Beek’s adaptation mostly sits in a familiar space defined by Australian habits. Oct 30, 2024 Full Review Joel Golby Guardian Workplaces have changed in the 11 years (!) since the end of the NBC run - the Australian version opens with a reckoning with work-from-home culture, a nod to Zoom quizzes, the reality of corporate rent, and a fairly good bit about standing desks. Oct 29, 2024 Full Review John Nugent Empire Magazine The latest edition of the mockumentary sitcom does not make a convincing case for its own existence — yet. P45s all round. Rated: 2/5 Oct 29, 2024 Full Review Eddie Harrison film-authority.com …in a world permanently hostile to successful women, it’s a real positive that the Australian Office is out there and exists at all; created by Jackie van Beek and Julie De Fina, it’s got a rude life and vitality all of its own… Rated: 4/5 Nov 10, 2024 Full Review Pat Stacey Irish Independent There’s not a spark of originality or imagination here. Everything about it has a hand-me-down feel. Oct 24, 2024 Full Review Archi Sengupta LeisureByte.com Prime Video's 'The Office' has its merits, especially Felicity Ward's fantastic performance, but fails to make an impression because it doesn't set itself apart from its predecessors. Rodrigo S The first episode made me feel so uncomfortable because it was so bad, and I stopped right there. I don't want to waste my life watching this offense to the original. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/12/24 Full Review DSC i At first I thought this going to be bad but I actually liked it. I like that it's different from the other The Office (well except for hannah, she gives off micheal vibe). A modern take of the office and i hope people give a change. I looking forward to season 2. ps. episode 2 is definitely my favorite. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/03/24 Full Review Luigi F This is honestly so good, at the same level of the office US. If we compare just the first seasons of these shows, this is much better. But for some reasons (because it has a woman boss) people love to hate it and call it bad... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/26/24 Full Review Larissa F People love to hate without a reason. It’s honestly good. Started watching without any expectations, but I had a really good time watching. It was fun to see the “modern” aspects of an office. Nowadays we have home office, and our boss can reach us anytime by apps. I really liked the new approach. There’s space to increase the stories of some characters, and I hope they do it. Really liked the new boss. I think that if it was a man, people would be comparing even more to the US version (which I adore. It’s my favorite tv show). Give it a try! Watch with an open mind and heart Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/20/24 Full Review Russell R Another example of why local content quotas are a bad idea. They almost always just take something from overseas and copy it as cheaply as possible. The results are invariably not worth watching. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/12/24 Full Review DP C So, they remade yet another English series... Yay... Watch Utopia instead. Why are they all in the same room? Why isn't this woman acting like a woman? Why are they trying to make it funny? That's why it's not funny. Not one part of this makes me think it's a real place. It's entirely staged, of course, but why did they present it to the audience as being staged? Nobody is believable as ever having worked before. Where is this supposed to take place? Is it after a dystopian takeover by a tyrannical cult? Why is it so... off. Robotic. Synthetic. The whole cast is bizarre in their appearance, let alone robotic acting.
