Predictability keeps The Perfect Couple far from being perfect, but intriguing performances and attractive vistas keep this seaside murder mystery highly watchable.

Judy Berman TIME Magazine You’d have to be a bigger snob than me to resist the brain-emptying pleasures of The Perfect Couple. Not every show has to be a masterpiece to be a good time, nor does being a great actor require career-long genuflection at the altar of cinema... Sep 19, 2024 Full Review Roxana Hadadi New York Magazine/Vulture Allow me to surprise you, as The Perfect Couple surprised me — because this show is wonderfully, preposterously hilarious. Sep 17, 2024 Full Review Amber Dowling Globe and Mail The Perfect Couple doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it’ll certainly scratch an itch for whodunnit lovers. Sep 11, 2024 Full Review Robert W. Butler Butler's Cinema Scene There are way too many superfluous subplots, digressions, red herrings and narrative dead ends. For much of the series I felt I was treading water… getting in my exercise but going nowhere. Torin F THE PERFECT COUPLE is an enjoyable murder mystery that relies on the now well-established formula of many other similarly successful limited series (several of which also star Nicole Kidman). Think Big Little Lies, where an outsider becomes embroiled in upper class scandal. It's a dependable formula, and The Perfect Couple delivers to good effect, along with the requisite social commentary, by virtue of a talented cast that makes the most of what might otherwise be more predicable fare. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/05/24 Full Review Susan S I was disturbed by the casual use of the "f-word" (I counted 14 times in the first 30 minutes or every two minutes). And not by just the jerk, Tom, but by the entire cast, as if normal people talk this way, which they don't. Surprised that the best-selling author who wrote this book would degrade the use of language like that, I bought the book, and guess what? She uses the f-word NOT ONCE in the entire book! Not only that, but Tag, who in the Series constantly smokes pot like cigarettes, as if he would even be able to walk or talk after such imbibing - there is no mention of him smoking pot in the book. Netflix does a good job making movies, but should eliminate "enhancements" that don't enhance. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/04/24 Full Review David F Very enjoyable murder mystery set in a sprawling mansion on Nantucket. There are lots of suspects, lots of juicy gossip, and there is even an undercurrent of thoughtful commentary about class. Very enjoyable indeed. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/04/24 Full Review Audience Member It's a fun whodunnit that is very obviously not trying to take itself too seriously. It feels like a short limited series Desperate Housewives in some ways and the cast is stunning. I really enjoyed watching it. It is a beautiful thing to turn your overly critical brain off and just watch TV for the enjoyment of it sometimes. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/02/24 Full Review Vasilis V Pop trash.. felt like poor writing. Great cast but directing and writing was very flimsy.. meant for an audience that likes easy to grasp stuff. Entertaining sure.. but in the end felt myself wanting my time back Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/02/24 Full Review jerry s Solid cast. Beautiful setting. Script is a jump-up from small town theater, where everyone is give a motive for a killing---who dun it?!--and brought in as the bad guy and exonerated until we are left with the one. Who cares at that point? Not enough other story arcs. And poor Eve Hewson, the lead, is tasked by the director to find a new pensive expression with each new arrest, I mean, with close-up head shots that only get a piece her face at times. She has a nice face, but not enough to float the movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/02/24 Full Review Read all reviews
