"Yellowjackets" tells the narrative of a team of wildly talented high-school girls soccer players who survive a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to warring, cannibalistic clans, while also tracking the lives they have attempted to piece back together. Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher and Sammi Hanratty star as the teenagers, while Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis portray their adult counterparts as they reveal the truth about their survival 25 years later.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Still at its very best when lost in the wilderness, Yellowjackets' third season is inescapably uneven but carried along effortlessly by its stronger elements.

Sam Adams Slate We don’t need to know where we’re going, but we need the sense that we’re going somewhere. Otherwise we’ll start shaking that mystery box, listening for the rattle until we wonder if there’s anything inside it at all. Feb 22, 2025 Full Review Melanie McFarland Salon.com Yellowjackets isn’t quite one show but several of inconsistent quality joined by the flimsy glue of lingering questions that don’t seem all that complicated. Feb 21, 2025 Full Review Shirley Li The Atlantic A season that’s ludicrous in plot yet freshly unsettling in its portrayal of how people can become resigned to their fate. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Joe Lipsett Queer.Horror.Movies. The main reason that this finale works is because it keeps the present day storyline to a bare minimum. Apr 13, 2025 Full Review Alberto Carlos Espinof ...the series continues to give us everything that made us fall in love with it: that black humor, a certain macabre quality, a fascinating mystery that is wonderfully ambiguous...and a tremendously successful and growing cast. [Full review in Spanish] Feb 26, 2025 Full Review Rachel Tolleson The Mary Sue Yellowjackets continues to be a show where the characters make the worst decisions possible, but it serves the plot in a way that makes sense. Angela C I just got bored with it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/17/25 Full Review M H While the beginning of season 3 is definitely slow to start and leaves you wondering at what point things will pick up (for the first 5 episodes, to be exact), the latter half of the season is nothing short of phenomenal and makes up for what the storyline was lacking initially. The season 3 finale is the best finale of any of the previous seasons of Yellowjackets. Sophie Thatcher has consistently been a highlight of the show, but this season her star power shines through and she, without a doubt, is THE lead of the season. The second half of season three contains some of the best writing I’ve seen from Yellowjackets thus far, especially in the teen timeline, and ramps the energy up dramatically while managing to bring things full circle and answering many of the audience’s most crucial questions. The cast and crew have successfully left me on the edge of my seat as far as how things will be wrapped up for these characters and I truly can’t wait to see what’s next for them. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/17/25 Full Review Eva B Great season! Plot was good with many unexpected and expected events. Hope we see the end of this series. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/17/25 Full Review Massimo P Season 3 of Yellowjackets reaches for what made the first two seasons special, but doesn’t quite grasp it. Still, I hope for a renewal so it may find its footing. I fear production may not understand why the teen timeline was so beloved in previous seasons, as the show has taken a direction this season that wouldn’t make it out of place on the CW, far from the HBO pitch it once was. Entering season three, they were short two crew members who have worked on previous projects that explore horror through the lens of womanhood, Karyn Kusuma and Liz Phang. I think similarly experienced voices need to be brought back to production and the writers room. I found myself wondering about the “show bible” when watching. This season had characters doing or saying one thing in one episode, only to very nonchalantly take it back the next. I hope that the writers and script editors have an appropriate document they can reference, informed by all previous episodes and the (very talented!) actors who helped shape the characters. To further improve the character writing, I’d like to see them consult mental health professionals to discuss trauma a bit further. I feel this season lacked exploring the emotions and motivations of characters, and I think that may help inform where to take the adult timeline, to move it toward a conclusion that’s both grounded and satisfying. We also saw characters moving in and out of locations quite frequently, seemingly for the sake of events that could only happen once separated. I think everyone who reviews the scripts needs to keep an eye out for characters coming and going, and suggest revisions that don’t feel as orchestrated. I think similar questions could be raised for items or information as well, “is it really important for X to (not) know this?”, “is it really important for X to (not) have this?”. Foreshadowing was another issue this season. Amongst all the theorizing, production has seemed to shift their approach to rely on (same-timeline) flashbacks over exposition, which I found rather anticlimactic compared to watching tension build. While I understand the risk, I think letting the actors know what their characters are going to do (or feel) ahead of time, so they can better incorporate it into their performance, could provide an easy path for the audience to find more “sense” in what happened upon rewatch. Overall, it does need some work - but they deserve a chance to put in that work. I’ve heard the cast and crew say many times that they all care about the quality and success of the show. If they still feel the same way, and bring feedback from this season into the next, I think there’s still ample opportunity to make something really great. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/16/25 Full Review Lisa C Something bad happened along the way from Season 2 to 3. The show got lost in it's own wilderness. The story line, the writing, and, in a few instances, the acting have all taken a nosedive. I see that people are asking about a Season 4. I say let's appreciate it for the 2 good seasons it gave us and let it die in peace. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/16/25 Full Review Brooklyn F Love love love it this show is so far one of my favorites right now Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review Read all reviews
