Basil Ruysdael
Basil Ruysdael was an actor who had a successful Hollywood career. Early on in his acting career, Ruysdael landed roles in various films, including the comedy adaptation "The Cocoanuts" (1929) with Groucho Marx, the western "Colorado Territory" (1949) with Joel McCrea and the Loretta Young drama "Come to the Stable" (1949). He also appeared in "The Doctor and the Girl" (1949), the drama "Pinky" (1949) with Jeanne Crain and the western "Broken Arrow" (1950) with James Stewart. His film career continued throughout the fifties in productions like "My Forbidden Past" (1951), "People Will Talk" (1951) with Cary Grant and the drama "Carrie" (1952) with Laurence Olivier. He also appeared in "Prince Valiant" (1954). Film continued to be his passion as he played roles in "Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier" (1955) with Fess Parker, the Pedro Armendariz dramatic period piece "Diane" (1956) and "Jubal" (1956) with Glenn Ford. He also appeared in the James Cagney drama "These Wilder Years" (1956) and the Spencer Tracy dramatic adaptation "The Last Hurrah" (1958). Ruysdael last acted in the drama "The Story of Ruth" (1960) with Stuart Whitman. Ruysdael passed away in October 1960 at the age of 72.
