Edward Winter
With a career spanning several decades, Edward Winter began his profession as an actor on Broadway in the late 1960s. After grabbing two Tony Award nominations for his performances in 1967's "Cabaret" and 1969's "Promises, Promises," Winter switched gears and moved to television. Starting out with a few guest spots in daytime television shows throughout the 1970s, including a recurring role as a Congressman in the serial "Soap," Winter then became a household name for his role as a frenzied intelligence officer, Colonel Samuel Flagg, in the military comedy "M*A*S*H." Although only featured in a handful of episodes throughout the show's 11-year duration, Winter's part in the series became iconic, mostly due to his riveting portrayal of a paranoid man of war. He tried his hand at voice acting in the '80s and '90s for such animated programs as Nickelodeon's "The Angry Beavers" and "Aaahh!!! Real Monsters" before dying of Parkinson's disease in 2001, closing the book on his storied 30-year career.
